PPP's first post-conventions poll in Ohio finds Barack Obama with a 5 point lead over Mitt Romney, 50-45. This is the largest lead PPP has found for Obama in an Ohio poll since early May. Last month Obama led 48-45. Both candidates have seen their images improve with Ohio voters in the wake of the conventions. Obama now breaks even in his approval rating at 48%, after being under water with 46% of voters approving and 51% disapproving of him a month ago. A federal judge ruled Friday that Ohio’s uniform voting law that gives special privileges to military voters is unconstitutional. Judge Peter Economus, a retired judge brought in to hear overload cases [1] in the Southern District of Ohio, Columbus Division, also ruled by fiat to impose statewide weekend voting hours on the entire state. First, the OH Sec of State John Husted removed two Democrats from the Montgomery County Board of Elections for violating OH law regarding election times and hours. The two had, despite OH law, tried to keep in place "weekend voting." Atty. Jon Allison, who heard the case, said in his ruling: “No reasonable person… could conclude the Directive is ambiguous and permits weekend hours for in person absentee voting.” He concluded “the facts warrant removal and recommend that the secretary take such action.” Uniform voting times and places have been established and, according to Husted, will be enforced.
