DAYTON -- We've shown you how tens of thousands of unaccompanied children are now surging our southern border. Many of those children are now being shipped across the country. So we wanted to know, would Dayton accept them? Mayor Nan Whaley says Dayton would be willing to extend their welcome mat again to these children in need. "This is a product of having no immigration reform by the federal government. We've continually asked Congres to act on this issue becasue we know these things can happen," Mayor Whaley said Thursday……

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder plans to support an effort to overturn a Republican-passed election law that eliminates days from Ohio's early-voting period and ends same-day registration. In an interview with ABC News’ Pierre Thomas, Holder said he expects to making filings in cases challenging Ohio and Wisconsin election laws. Holder told Thomas that he would “use every power that I have, every ability that I have, as attorney general, to defend that right to vote.” Pointing out that it was 50 years ago that three young civil rights workers were murdered in Mississippi, Holder told Thomas that...

An obviously very educated and intelligent feminist in a Burger King outfit demonstrated her superior grasp of morality by trashing anti-abortion signs and launching into a classic frothing-at-the-mouth diatribe exposition of everything wrong with those who consider themselves to be pro-life. WASHINGTON — Regardless of whether Sen. Rob Portman or Gov. John Kasich runs for president in 2016, the Republican convention in Cleveland will give both a chance to enhance their national profile as they try to highlight what they believe is their pragmatic brand of conservatism. At a time when Republicans are hoping to temper the image of a party in the grips of social conservatives and tea party activists, analysts say Portman and Kasich can help Republicans present Americans with a more soothing alternative to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Portman can emphasize his...

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Family and friends gathered outside of a Dayton shopping plaza to remember a teen shot in an apparent robbery attempt. Isiah Haggins Jr., 16, was shot multiple times by the owner of the Step-N-Style clothing store in the Northwest Shopping Plaza on West Siebenthaler Avenue on June 30. Police said Haggins, along with another suspect, walked into the store armed with guns in a reported robbery attempt. Since Haggins’ death was declared a homicide, the Sisters of the Precious Blood held a vigil for him Saturday afternoon. People gathered Saturday outside of the store to pray...

Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus announced Cleveland as the location on the Fox News Channel in a live, on-air interview. The interview was immediately preceded by a tweet, which has since been deleted, from a spokesman for the Republican Governors Association. "We're excited about bringing the convention to Cleveland in Ohio, and we're excited about the decision. We think it's a smart decision," Priebus said. Cleveland edged out Dallas, the other finalist, as the recommended location for the convention,...

Washington (CNN) - The Republican National Committee announced Tuesday that their Site Selection Committee has picked Cleveland to host the 2016 Republican National Convention. The full membership of the RNC is expected to ratify the Site Selection Committee's recommendation at its early August meeting in Chicago. Last month the RNC narrowed the competition down to two finalists: Cleveland and Dallas. Denver, Kansas City, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Cincinnati, and Columbus, Ohio were previously dropped from contention.

CINCINNATI, OH -- A Hamilton County magistrate ruled Monday to uphold the Ohio Health Department's decision to close the Lebanon Road Surgery Center, Martin Haskell's Sharonville abortion clinic, for failure to meet Ohio medical standards. Specifically, Haskell's clinic continues to operate without a transfer agreement with any area hospital. The magistrate promised to reverse a previous ruling that allowed the clinic to remain open, in a ruling he plans to file on July 10. "We want to thank the Health Department as well as Attorney General Mike DeWine for enforcing Ohio law and refusing to allow the abortion industry to...

The latest interstate voter cross check tallied 6,951,484 overlapping voter registrations, and they’re just the tip of the iceberg. The cross-check program involves only 28 states and does not include the three largest: California, Texas and Florida. “Duplicate registration is an open invitation to voting fraud,” said Clara Belle Wheeler, a member of the Election Board in Albemarle County, Va. “This ability to vote more than once dilutes the legal votes and changes the results of elections.”

Cleveland is one of the two finalists to host the 2016 Republican National Convention. The Republican National Committee’s Site Selection Committee made the announcement June 25 that it has chosen Cleveland and Dallas as the two finalists. The committee’s decision was based on a thorough review of bids, presentations, and visits to each of the cities, according to a news release. “Cleveland and Dallas demonstrated their ability to host a phenomenal convention in 2016, and the RNC is excited about the prospect of hosting our convention in either of these great cities,” Committee Chairwoman Enid Mickelsen said in a statement....

“Let’s face it: I’ve been a thorn in leadership’s side,” says Arizona Republican Rep. Matt Salmon, sitting at his desk in the Rayburn House Office Building. Earlier that day, Salmon had just been named by Speaker John Boehner to a special “working group” on the crisis at the southern U.S. border, where tens of thousands of unaccompanied children are streaming into the country with hopes that President Obama will grant them amnesty. Salmon is the most conservative member of the new group, and his selection by Boehner is surprising, to say the least, given that the Arizonan has been a...

The office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine evidently doesn't care that police who are ignorant or contemptuous of the law pose a well-documented danger to open carriers. The office of Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has responded to Gun Rights Examiner’s concerns that police comments about “double tapping” open carriers show a dangerous disregard for state law, and unsurprisingly, has decided to do nothing about it other than have a proxy deny responsibility and punt the ball to state representatives.

An RTA bus driver’s claim that three black teenagers shot and stabbed him is not supported by the evidence and reconstruction of the incident by a police investigation. Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl said during a press conference Wednesday that key elements of driver Rickey Wagoner’s story - in particular the sequence of events and ballistics tests on the gun said to be used in the shooting - could not have happened as described. In a release posted on the Dayton Regional Transportation Authority’s website at the same time the police news conference was underway, RTA Executive Director Mark Donaghy...

According to police in Dayton, Ohio, a bus driver’s claim that a Bible shielded him from bullets earlier this year when teenagers attacked simply doesn’t mesh with uncovered evidence and facts. Rickey Wagoner, 49, said that he was outside of the vehicle on February 24 to investigate a mechanical issue when three black teenagers assaulted him.

One of the nation’s largest coal companies on Wednesday sued President Barack Obama’s administration seeking to block the Environmental Protection Agency’s new carbon emissions rules for power plants. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit by Murray Energy Corp. EPA rules announced this month seek to reduce global warming by forcing a 30 percent cut in carbon dioxide emissions from 2005 levels by 2030. […] “This is clearly an illegal attempt by the Obama EPA to impose irrational and destructive cap-and-tax mandates, which Congress and the American people have consistently rejected,”...

The Rockies Express Pipeline (REX) announced on Monday that it expects service to commence as soon as today for the first 0.25 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of capacity on its 0.60 Bcf/d Seneca Lateral pipeline in southeast Ohio. The 14.3-mile lateral will flow gas north from the MarkWest Seneca natural gas processing plant to the REX mainline, where a newly built compressor station will allow this gas to be delivered to points west in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. No new pipelines will be added to the mainline; the project will allow bidirectional flows—both east and west—to occur on...
