It’s hard to read about...Civil Rights... without playing a game of ‘what would I have done?’ ... This spring when Obama described his “evolution”... I felt like I could relate... When... people rise up and demonstrate their commitment to their rights... how do you say no to them in good conscience? ... one is inevitably reminded of the Civil Rights Movement. The pattern of non-violent resistance adopted by Martin Luther King had a complex beauty, operating at one time on so many levels... The Civil Rights Movement placed the burden of black suffering squarely on the plates of people all...

Via the Examiner, I understand why he punted here. His retort to Reid's tax-evasion smear last night was that it's an obvious, grotesque attempt to hand the media a new distraction from Obama's record. He just got back from a foreign policy trip/photo op that was also submerged in distractions, most notably his Olympics comments in London and his aide's "kiss my ass" comments to the press in Poland. He's just begun pushing a more positive message keyed to his biography to convince undecideds that he's up to the job. The last thing he wants right now is another distraction...

Love her or loathe her (and those seem to be the only options), Sarah Palin won’t go away. Despite holding no office and having no obvious intention of running for one, she continues to dominate headlines and divide the country. So how will Romney handle her in 2012? Presuming that he won’t nominate her for Veep (the smart money is on a really boring white guy), what role – if any – will she take in the campaign? Should the GOP embrace the Palin effect or pretend it doesn’t exist? Palin’s national role in the last few days reminds us...

President Obama has met the enemy, and they are us (us, that is, if you are Caucasian). So reads the handwriting on the wall, according to BuzzFeed, which reports: President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign has spent more than $100 million on advertising over the last 3 months. Much, if not most, of it has been produced to shred Mitt Romney’s reputation and suppress turnout among white voters who might vote for Romney. That last sentence is worth re-reading. It links to a New York Times op-ed that notes with equal candor, not to mention nonchalance: He is running a two-track...

It could have been a scene from one of his films, but fortunately for Mitt Romney, it was no act when Clint Eastwood endorsed him Friday night. At a fundraiser in the Idaho resort town of Sun Valley, where Eastwood owns a home, Romney said the legendary actor and director "just made my day." But Eastwood showed up at the Sun Valley resort as a citizen concerned about the direction of the country, telling reporters beforehand he was backing the Republican presidential candidate "because I think the country needs a boost somewhere." He later told hundreds at the outdoor reception...

I did it. I'm ready for the flames. I put a Romney bumper sticker on my car. But no cash from me until/if a decent VP is chosen. I'm in upstate NY. I was ready for the comments as I had to travel all over today. Eight people made comments, and one that made my gaydar go off gave me an "I don't think so girlfriend" look. Of the eight that spoke, one screamed out "Obama!" which just made me laugh, and the remaining 7 said, to sum up "Yeah, Obamas got to go." One said it with a sigh...

Indian-American Akshay Desai has been roped in by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for his outreach to Asian American community ahead of the crucial November 6 US presidential elections. Florida-based Desai, CEO of Universal Healthcare, has been made one of the seven national co-chairs of the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders for Romney community. "I am pleased and honoured to serve as a national co-chair for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders for Romney," Desai said. "As a businessman, I know all too well what it takes to make it in the private sector. When I hear President Obama tell small...

When Harry Reid made the wildly incredible claim that Romney hadn’t paid taxes in 10 years, perhaps he failed to mention that the taxes in particular were tobacco and alcohol taxes. We all know what a dirty business politics is especially during campaigns, so the Dems must be tearing their collective hair out trying to find something dastardly with which they can smear their otherwise wholesome opponent. In a recent column, Ann Coulter astutely observed that Mitt Romney is so deficient in the area of compromising scandals that the Dems are reduced to turning mild and ordinary behavior into something...

Love the bit at the end here about how this smear exposes Obama's above-the-fray shtick as the cynical Hopenchange branding nonsense that it is. I also like the added emphasis on "a lot of taxes," although Think Progress or TPM or whoever is no doubt working up a post right now explaining why the millions he's paid over the years don't really qualify as "a lot."Serious question: Should HuffPo have published Reid's initial accusation about the mysterious Bain investor who allegedly called him about Romney? WaPo wonders: In this case, the dissemination of ReidÂ’s words is responsible, compulsory. It would...

Don’t buy the doom and gloom pronouncements from conservatives telling you, “this is the most important election in history.” A loss for Mitt Romney would not necessarily spell long lasting disaster for Republicans, nor would it be the death-knell to conservatism. In fact, it’s possible a 2012 loss could lay the groundwork for a stronger Republican party and conservative movement. Elections are almost always seen as urgent and morally imperative. But sometimes major victories can only come in the aftermath of what appear to be devastating defeats. John Kerry‘s loss in 2004 laid the groundwork for a Democratic takeover in...

Really. Boston.com dug it up, and Mediaite spells it out: Romney took English 3, Elementary Algebra, Biology, French 1, and Art 3. He is credited in his art class for having a “real ability in painting,” but admitted that Romney is “not as industrious or as responsible as he might be.” The rest of the report card contains similar comments about Romney’s potential to do better in class, and under additional comments, the following is written about Romney’s overall performance. “Mitt is doing well. He is a more responsible citizen this year.” Wow. Just devastating. So while he was allegedly...

At the outset of his recent foreign trip, Mitt Romney committed a gaffe. In answer to a question about the Olympics, he expressed skepticism about London’s preparations. The response confounded and exasperated Romney supporters because it was such an unforced error. The question invited a simple paean to Olympic spirit and British grit, not the critical analysis of a former Olympic organizer. Soon that initial stumble was transmuted into a metaphor for everything that followed. The mainstream media decided with near-unanimity that the rest of the trip amounted to a gaffe-prone disaster. Really? The Warsaw leg was a triumph. Romney’s...

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Mitt Romney attracting 47% of the vote, while President Obama earns support from 43%. Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent (5%) are undecided... Currently, 22% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way Obama is performing as president. Forty-five percent (45%) Strongly Disapprove, giving him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -23 (see trends). This is the president’s lowest Approval Index rating of 2012.

Mitt Romney presents one enormous problem for Barack Obama's campaign: No divorce records. That's why the media are so hot to get their hands on Romney's tax records for the past 25 years. They need something to "pick through, distort and lie about" -- as the Republican candidate says. Obama's usual campaign method, used in 100 percent of his races, has been to pry into the private records of his opponents.

As I said before, I was told by an extremely credible source that Romney has not paid taxes for ten years. People who make as much money as Mitt Romney have many tricks at their disposal to avoid paying taxes. We already know that Romney has exploited many of these loopholes, stashing his money in secret, overseas accounts in places like Switzerland and the Cayman Islands.

After the Washington Post did their evaluation of Romney's 2010 tax return, they came up with the idea that Romney's "effective tax rate" was only 13.9 percent. After looking at this, I decided I better have a look myself, since that smelled fishy, considering the source. I'm glad I did. I downloaded all 203 pages of Romney's 2010 tax return and prepared for a long evening in front of the computer. However, as I suspected, the pro-Obama people aren't going to put much time into anything if they think they can fool the masses with just a little effort. Just...

As anyone on FreeRepublic will tell you, I am NOT a conspiracy theorist, and usually find common sense explanations for why things happen. Usually, history shows these are right. However, some things have happened recently that have me looking outside “common sense.” 1) Polling, except for Rasmussen and occasionally Gallup, has been wildly and utterly in the tank for Obama. Quinnipiac, one of the worst, came out today with a 9-point Obama lead (he’s at 50) using a +19 (!!!!) Dem sample. In an accurate sample, Romney wins by 1-2. This comes after the CBS poll last week with a...
