Hi all, I'm in the market for a semi-auto conceal & carry handgun. I just found out that Ruger is making a compact version of their SR9 (the SR9c) due to ship this month. I currently have a Ruger Red Label 12ga O/U which is a magnificent shotgun - I'm just a bit hazy on their sidearms.... Any opinions? Any other suggestions for a semi-auto C&C? Thanks! Go Scott Brown!

Last Sunday a fourth brown bear for the year was killed in a defense of life and property (DLP) shooting, and there is no mistaking that it was the former, not the latter, that was on the line for the man who shot it.

A few entries ago, you were promised that as soon as we got our hands on the latest new Ruger rifle, you’d hear back. Well, we muckled onto three or so of ‘em this past week, so here we go. As noted here earlier, the rifle is designated SR556, for Sturm, Ruger 5.56 millimeter. It takes standard AR15/M16 magazines, and comes with three of them, produced by Magpul, one of the best makers. It’s the most “vendor-outsourced” firearm this company has ever assembled – really, pretty much everything but the barrel and barrel extension come from outside the factory –...

I recently bought a Mark III. I am having the darnedest time disammbling and reassemnbling it. I have thye manual and have tried to follow it. When I got it disassembled and ready to assemble, everytime I got the bolt stop back in and tried to close the mainspring housing, the bolt stop would back out. I tried to disassemble it and see what was wrong and now I can't remove the bolt. It pulls out just about a 1/2 inch. Can anyone help?

Here's the story. In October 2008, I bought a brand new Ruger P-95 from a local gun store. I took it to the range for a total of 2 times before the magazine would not properly load into the gun. I took it back to the shop. The shop was told to do something to it; it worked for about 20 rounds and then again, would not accept the magazine. So I returned it to the store a second time and said I would like it returned to the Ruger factory as (1)it is not trustworthy, and (2) it is...

Question, and any assistance you could provide would be awesome at this point, as I have tried and tried to find what I am looking for, and I have been unable too. My Father owns a Ruger P-85 that he bought about 20 years ago, when it originally came out. He wants to get another magazine for it, and he has tried looking and can’t find one. Evidently they changed the model design since then, and the new P-85 magazine will not fit the older P-85 model. Ruger’s site has the P-85 listed, but only for newer serial numbers. His...

Based on the valuable input from a previous thread, I picked up a brand new Ruger Mini-30. Right out of the box I had the sad experience of pulling the trigger and no bang. I send it back to the factory, waited long 3 weeks and got it back with a note that they had replaced the firing pin. Took it out yesterday and got 5 shots off before the pin broke again. Can’t blame cheap ammo, I’m using USA made Winchester. Is Ruger using glass firing pins? Is something misaligned in the action causing extra stress on the pin?

Ok, i have a problem. I've got a super blackhawk, 44magnum, that has a cylinder pin latch that doesn't want to hold the pin in place. I have to push it back in every 2d or 3d shot to keep it going. has anyone else held this problem or do you know any fixes for it? It was manufactured in 1976, I don't know how many rounds have been fired thru it, but I've put about 5,000 thru it in the last year, most loads were 240gr LSWC loaded with 10.3gr unique.

Checking the inbox of the Gmail account associated with my Blogger blogs, I discovered that I had mail from Sturm, Ruger & Co. It's a "cease and desist" request regarding my username. It seems that they very much want me to stop using it. The company representative very politely informed me that my blogging is confusing some people who think that the opinions expressed in my postings on my several blogs are those of the company. Wow, I never imagined that blogging would bring such notoriety, LOL. The upside is that I'm getting the word about Fred Thompson out to...

Need advice: I have a friend who needs money and wants me to buy his Ruger P-89. I used to own one and carried it as a duty weapon and loved it until I bought a Glock so I wouldn't mind owning one again just to take to the range. It is in great shape, has the orig. case, 3 clips, and he claims to have only fired 4 clips through it at an indoor range. He wants $300 but I could buy a new one for that. What is the most FReepers think I should pay. (I'm willing to...

Hello all. I'm in the midst of purchasing a shotgun for my Birthday. I don't hunt, but might someday. I'll more than likely be using the gun for skeet shooting. I have two friends who have different opinions; one wants me to purchase a Remington 11-87; the other the Ruger Red Label (Over and Under). I have a $2,000 cap limit. Any input would be appreciated!

I am considering buying a pistol for personal, home protection. I don't expect to have any concealed carry needs/opportunities/license. I am pretty well settled on 45ACP as a benchmark for stopping power. I am also limiting my preferences to American manufacturers. I don't expect to do a lot of shooting, except for regular practice to maintain proficiency. I've seen a lot of discussion of various weapons and I'm really asking for views on reliability, durability, user-friendliness, safety and degree of kickback for the Ruger P345PR. If anyone suggests another American made 45, please tell me why it would be preferred...

I'm hoping for some good advice from fellow Freepers about which handgun to purchase. I'm a novice shooter (with handguns at least). Don't really know very much about them. I've applied for a conceal carry permit in Indiana, and I'm signed up for the next NRA basic education classes at the local range. This will be my first (and possibly only) small sidearm purchase. I don't want or need anything too heavy-duty. Just a reliable, effective, easy to use, accurate pistol for personal and home defense. I'm leaning toward a Glock 9mm, but I understand there is a wide divergence...
