A Market Forecast That Says ‘Take Cover’ WITH the stock market lurching again, plenty of investors are nervous, and some are downright bearish. Then there’s Robert Prechter, the market forecaster and social theorist, who is in another league entirely. Prechter is convinced that we have entered a market decline of staggering proportions — perhaps the biggest of the last 300 years. ...... Originating in the writings of Ralph Nelson Elliott, an obscure accountant who found repetitive patterns, or “fractals,” in the stock market of the 1930s and ’40s, the theory suggests that an epic downswing is under way, Mr. Prechter...

According to liberal economic Paul Krugman, a "third depression" will occur if nations tighten their belts and attempt to balance their budgets. Forget about the riots in Greece over a social welfare system the government couldn't maintain or a $1.4 trillion annual U.S. budget deficit. Krugman claimed that the threat of deflation supersedes both of those results of runaway government spending - that is higher taxes in the long run and a debt to future generations.

Los Angeles – The image of American Muslims is in serious disrepair. A January 2010 Gallup poll found that almost half of Americans hold an unfavorable view of Islam. About the same number of Americans harbor personal prejudice toward Muslims, .. These numbers become especially troubling when we consider that two-thirds of the Americans polled admit to knowing little to nothing about Islam. Why are many Americans distrustful of a religion and people they know very little about? People tend to fear what they do not understand. Americans, for the most part, have been brought up in a Christian society....

The head of health at the Council of Europe, Wolfgang Wodarg, called the swine flu scare a “false pandemic” orchestrated by drug companies looking pull in large profits from the vaccines. Saying it was “one of the greatest medicine scandals of the century,” Wodark said, “[Swine flu] is just a normal kind of flu. It does not cause a tenth of deaths caused by the classic seasonal flu. The great campaign of panic we have seen provided a golden opportunity for representatives from labs who knew they would hit the jackpot in the case of a pandemic being declared.” The...

The charity warns that over 900 million children in the next generation will be affected by water shortages and 160 million more children will be at risk of catching malaria – one of the biggest killers of children under five – as it spreads to new parts of the world. In a new report Save the Children claims that climate change is the biggest global health threat to children in the 21st century as droughts and floods force families to leave their homes and children to drop out of school. A House leadership deal with Blue Dogs and an aggressive marketing push by Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) shifted the healthcare debate sharply toward centrist positions Wednesday, sparking threats of rebellion from the left. The day’s events left the Senate Finance Committee’s emergent bill as the most viable vehicle on Capitol Hill, but also made clear that House Democrats are still riven by bitter disagreements. Democrats postponed a floor vote until after the August recess, meeting a top demand of centrist Blue Dogs. The Blue Dogs’ deal, which cut $100 billion from the healthcare reform price tag, was instantly denounced by...

"We have made great progress. Every day we make some progress," Sen. Charles Grassley, one of the three Republicans from Senate Finance Committee involved in the talks to overhaul the healthcare system, told NPR radio. AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT OBAMA By Lou Pritchett Dear President Obama: You are the thirteenth President under whom I have lived and unlike any of the others, you truly scare me. You scare me because after months of exposure, I know nothing about you. You scare me because I do not know how you paid for your expensive Ivy League education and your upscale lifestyle and housing with no visible signs of support. You scare me because you did not spend the formative years of youth growing up in America and culturally you are not an American. You scare...

WASHINGTON - A key Senate leader appears to be leaning toward proposing a new tax on employer-provided insurance benefits and creating a new federal agency modeled on one in Massachusetts to make it easier for individuals and small groups to buy insurance. The Senate Finance Committee is discussing a series of policy options for sweeping healthcare legislation scheduled to be completed by mid-June. On Monday, the committee released options for insuring the nation's 47 million uninsured, including expanding Medicaid, subsidizing private insurance for low-income people, and creating a public insurance plan - an idea Republicans have flatly rejected. Yesterday, the...

When told of the flight, President Barack Obama was furious, a White House official said on the condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations. Still, federal officials provided few details and wouldn't say why the public and area building security managers weren't notified. They also wouldn't address why someone thought it was a wise decision to send two jets into New York City, all for a few photos with the Statue of Liberty as a backdrop.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Secret Service officers were scurrying to close the North Lawn of the White House Wednesday afternoon because of a suspicious package and it appeared that trouble was brewing. But it turned out that nothing more was brewing than an innocent little box of, yes, tea bags. The security alert started around 2 p.m. ET, when an unidentified person tossed the box over the gate of the White House and it landed on President Obama's lawn with a thud. Journalists were quickly banned from moving outside of the press briefing room, and hundreds of protesters gathered for a...

Around 2am the bomb squad determined the threat was a hoax. The Yemeni man was taken into custody by the FBI and is facing a felony charge of making a threat on a public conveyance.
