This ought to make Republicans, particularly New York Congressman Pete King, happy. Mr. King, who's the ranking Republican on the Homeland Security Committee, has been trying for months to call Ms. Rogers before the committee, but the White House hasn't made her available, and naturally, Democrats have been reluctant to issue her a subpoena. Mr. King even sent her a letter with 15 questions. "I take this very seriously," he told Good Morning America. Why all the seriousness about a White House party? "[The Gatecrashers] could have been terrorists, they could have been psychopaths, they could have attacked the president,...

A mentally ill man with a homemade security pass was able to get within metres of U.S. Vice President during a security breach at the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, CTV News has learned. As dozens of police held back thousands of protestors outside of BC Place in Vancouver, a 48-year-old British Columbia man slipped past several layers of security inside the venue, said RCMP Assistant Commissioner Bud Mercer, the head of the 2010 Integrated Security Unit (ISU). Mercer said the man's target was clear. "He had an infatuation with the US Vice President." Biden was seated...

The man was arrested by airport police and was being questioned, airport spokesman Mike Conway said. "The Transportation Security Administration asked him to stop and he didn't comply," Conway said. TSA workers activated an alarm and called police. Security doors were lowered at the portion of the terminal between the security...

A former director of the CIA has been chosen to uncover how the U.S. failed to prevent the Christmas Day bombing attempt on a passenger plane, and the Fort Hood Army base shooting. McLaughlin was the deputy director of the Central Intelligence Agency for four years, including during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. He was also briefly the acting director of the CIA in 2004. He will head a team of national security experts to investigate the series of events that...

Buss-ted! Cops have caught the notorious kissing bandit who caused a major security scare at Newark Airport Sunday when he strolled through a checkpoint the wrong way to give his girlfriend a smooch goodbye, sources said. Haisong Jiang, a 28-year-old Rutgers bio-medical research grad student, brought the busy airport to a standstill and sparked a weeklong manhunt, sources said. The stunning breach was missed by TSA guard Ruben Hernandez, who left his post, but was called a "model employee" by a union official. After scouring images of license plates at the airport parking lot and matching them to passenger lists,...

What would you say if I told you that one of the federal agents who ventured to travel writer Steven Frischling's house to issue a subpoena and search his electronic equipment for the source of the agency's leaked security directive (SD) also happened to leave his notebook lying in a public place? Would you define such a misstep as complete ineptitude? Would you wonder how the agency protects the information it gleans from other - more important - investigations (you know, ones involving threats against our nation)? A source with knowledge of the situation tells me that one of the...

The Salahis weren't the only gate-crashers living it up at the White House state dinner last November. The Secret Service revealed Monday that a third individual who was not on the guest list made it into the dinner, though the agency says the individual went through security screening and did not appear to have any interaction with President Obama. The Secret Service, which did not name the individual, said the information about the third party-crasher came out in the course of the investigation into the breach at the Nov. 24 dinner honoring India's prime minister. The Secret Service said in...

President Obama's top counterterrorism adviser, John O. Brennan, will lead the White House review of intelligence community information practices and aviation security, even though he was CEO of the private company the government used to help manage a key terrorism database before he joined the administration. In response to questions about Brennan's potential conflict of interest, White House ethics counsel Norm Eisen has issued a waiver for Brennan, official said. Before he served as CEO of The Analysis Corporation, or TAC, Brennan was the interim director of the first incarnation of the National Counterterrorism Center. In that position, he oversaw...

That was quite a revealing -- and understandable -- public tantrum President Obama threw Tuesday. Understandable, because the president has every right to be livid over the "potentially catastrophic breach of security" that nearly saw a terrorist bring down an airliner with 289 people aboard. And revealing, because perhaps Obama has come to understand that he does not enjoy as much control over intelligence matters as he might have imagined. Also, that the Islamist threat to America won't be countered with mere words.

Returning Gitmo's detainees to Yemen defies common sense. President Obama has belatedly declared that the near miss above Detroit constituted "a catastrophic breach of security" and ordered a review of America's intelligence efforts. We're glad to hear it, but let's hope the Commander in Chief also rethinks his own approach to counterterrorism.Recent events have exposed the shortcomings of treating terror as a law enforcement problem and rushing to close Guantanamo Bay. A new wave of jihadists is coming of age, inspiring last month's deadly attack at Ft. Hood and nearly bringing down Northwest Flight 253, and next time we may...
