(Reuters) - An Ohio man was executed on Tuesday morning after the Supreme Court declined to hear his appeal, officials said. Daniel Lee Bedford, 63, was put to death by lethal injection Tuesday morning for a double homicide in Cincinnati in 1984, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. His defense attorneys had argued for clemency, citing dementia and mental retardation. A federal judge had granted Bedford a stay of execution Monday, but this was lifted by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court rejected his final appeal. WASHINGTON - A former Mississippi sheriff's deputy was arrested Wednesday in the 1964 slayings of two black teenagers who were long believed to have been kidnapped and killed by the Ku Klux Klan. The former deputy, James Ford Seale, of Roxie, Miss., was named in a federal indictment charging him in connection with the teens' disappearance and deaths while they were hitchhiking in a rural area of the state east of Natchez. A 24-year-old Oxnard man has been arrested in Mexico in connection with the 2004 murders of three people, authorities said. Rudolfo Negrete was taken into custody in Acapulco Friday by Mexican authorities acting on information from the U.S. Marshals Service and the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, which had been seeking Negrete since shortly after the killings.
