Tomb of the Unknown Soldier disrespect not tolerated November 20, 2012 By: Scott Paulson Taking the expression “some people just don’t think!” to a new level, Lindsey Stone thought she was being funny when she posted a picture of herself giving the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery "the finger" - the middle finger - while appearing to shout at the national memorial in October. After posting the pic to Facebook, somehow thinking her friends would enjoy the photo, she most definitely found out otherwise. As of Monday, the backlash has been severe for Stone. Veterans Day:...

Spring Grove soldier laid to rest Hundreds attend services for the fallen soldier on Saturday. By TIM STONESIFER For the Daily Record/Sunday News ork, PA - In the silence, you could hear the fabric rub together as the flag was folded at last into a triangle. There, on a hillside near Spring Grove, a soldier pressed it with white gloves hard to his chest, then raised a hand in salute, motionless. A church bell tolled, a butterfly arced quietly over rows of tombstones, and more than 300 American flags stirred in the breeze along a rutted road. The first crack...

While the T-SPLOST vote rightly gets most of the attention, the July 31 primaries will also feature a number of ballot questions for both Republican voters and Democrats. We’ve covered a few of them in previous Poll Positions, and today we’re going to resume that series with a bang. No, really. The third question on GOP primary ballots will read: Should active duty military personnel who are under the age of 21 be allowed to obtain a Georgia weapons carry license?

We are trying to get more details of the story and the Youtube video contains offensive language. There seems to be conflicting facts and everyone needs to remain calm till we can get all the facts. Could someone please tell the National Guard Soldier to please come forward? A young soldier in uniform went into a Texaco station in Bogalusa, LA, a day or so ago and was told by a Muslim owner, possibly a Pakistani, that they "don't serve your kind here." The locals in Bogalusa didn't take kindly to this affront and organized a boycott of the place,...

It's the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate. It's the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the Right to a Fair Trial. It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves under the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who gives the protestor the right to burn the flag. ~Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Humiston Children Memorial Day had its genesis in the Civil War. First known as Decoration Day, the holiday began by commemorating fallen Union soldiers. The event was inspired by how the Southern States had honored their dead, decorating Confederate graves, usually in the time frame of April through June. The first observance in the North was May 30, 1868 at Arlington National Cemetery as well as other cemeteries in the Northern States. But after World War I, the North and South agreed on the same date (May 30th). And Decoration Day was extended to all men and women, who...
