On Tuesday night, President Barack Obama will deliver his fourth State of the Union Address. Traditionally the unofficial kickoff of an incumbent president's re-election campaign, he cannot be faulted for using this Constitutionally mandated speech as a political opportunity (though one could argue he's been campaigning more than governing for years). But in a video released this morning to millions of his supporters, he previewed an address designed to win a first term for an untested candidate, not a second term for a president that has already failed. In the video, Mr. Obama says he will concentrate on four areas...

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, a popular fiscal conservative who flirted with a presidential bid, will deliver the Republican response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address on Tuesday. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., announced the selection of Daniels in a statement Thursday in which they praised his "solid record of effective government and fiscal responsibility." Daniels provides the GOP with a one-time potential White House hopeful as a counterpoint to Obama in an election year heavily focused on the nation's economic outlook. He also governs a state that Obama...

The markets were on a roll. New companies were being listed every few days. Germany had a new currency, and its mighty exporters were doing business around the world. Greece had merged its currency with that of France and Italy in a bold experiment in monetary union. A massive new continental economy was flooding the world with cheap goods, disrupting old industries. And new technologies were creating global markets, where money and information zipped from bourse to bank virtually instantaneously. Until the crash came, it seemed as if everyone would keep on getting richer and richer forever. You could be...

In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama suggested freezing spending on a small fraction of the federal budget and making a few cuts. But, as the National Taxpayers' Union calculated, the plan actually would add a net $21 billion in spending. And that's before the unknown costs of seven other major State of the Union proposals whose price tags aren't immediately obvious. The president can't disguise spending by calling it "investing." Americans recognize that when government "invests" what really happens is that taxpayers' money is spent. . . .

Did you notice what the president avoided in the State of the Union speech Tuesday night? President Barack Obama didn’t sing the green anthem about “cap and trade” or “carbon emissions” or “global warming.” Hm. Why might that be? . . .

On Tuesday President Obama twisted and contorted the truth like he was Gumby. In one part of his State of the Union speech he called for a spending freeze, which by the way he did last year and look where that has gotten us. The president’s proposed freeze in government spending amounts to a whopping $40 billion per year which is probably close to what we pay for office supplies every year. Then later in the speech he called for major investment (spending) to repair our crumbling infrastructure; so which one is it? A freeze or spending? I guess in...

The President’s state of the union address boiled down to this message: “The era of big government is here as long as I am, so help me pay for it.” He dubbed it a “Winning The Future” speech, but the title’s acronym seemed more accurate than much of the content. Americans are growing impatient with a White House that still just doesn’t get it. The President proves he doesn’t understand that the biggest challenge facing our economy is today’s runaway debt when he states we want to make sure “we don’t get buried under a mountain a debt.” That’s the...

The president’s State of the Union Speech was – at long last – the one I wanted him to give. It went after the very poison that has so sickened the United States of America. His call for us to shake off the Cult of Future-Hatred, indulged in by both right and left, was about urging us to start looking forward again, instead of to some mythically better past.

During the State of the Union address, the President called for Americans to have 80% of all electrical power being generated from Renewable sources by 2035. Despite being a physical impossibility to actually do this, the cost is astronomical, $6 Trillion. Renewables, at best might be able to supply power for 6 to 8 hours a day, and, right now, if 65% of all electrical power in the U.S. is required 24/7/365, then this 'Sputnik Moment' for the President becomes not just a dream, but a nightmare of truly disastrous proportions. This dream of his will have us all back...

> What a moron! Who is that grinning fool on the left (clapping his hands)? President Barack Obama made some concessions to the business community in his State of the Union address Tuesday, saying he'd like to lower the corporate tax rate and foster U.S. job growth and innovation. Many chief executives reacted skeptically to President Barack Obama's offer to lower the corporate-tax rate and foster U.S. job growth, but some said they appreciated the president's changed tone toward business during his State of the Union address. President Obama was applauded by Vice President Joe Biden and House Speaker John Boehner...

Sarah was in fire tonight with Greta and she said that it was strange with Obama and his "win the future" theme last night in his State of the Union speech. She initial it on Greta as 'WTF' moments......She is goading the WH and the press on purpose---- love it! She said that the Spunik remark by the President was one of those 'WTF' moments! She said that there were a " lot of WTF moments last night" She also said that she would eliminate the NPR and the NEA

10. Obama was actually giving a "pre-action" to Paul Ryan's speech on the state of the union. 9. Biden laughed when Obama said he would veto earmarks, because he thought it would be silly to ban place holders for audio books. 8. While praising the ratification of START Obama forgot to mention that piece of paper was his idea of a missile defense shield. 7. Biden was frowning the whole time because he was sad he forgot to bring his Nintendo DS. 6. Biden suggested "Win the future," which he plagiarized from a slot machine at some indian casino...

Ok, not an entirely honest post title, but it's not "lefty spending freeze" dishonest. Three words will sum it up, but I need to lay some foundation first.

The race for the presidential election began last night with the address before Congress by prospective candidate Barack Obama, billed by the White House as a State of the Union address. For those who could not, or perhaps chose, not to endure it, we present here selected highlights, with clarifying commentary in italics, as a public service. After all, it’s always a pleasure to hear the views of my good friend Sotero. Amid all the noise and passion and rancor of our public debate, [the tragedy in] Tucson reminded us that no matter who we are or where we come...

Representative Michele Bachmann’s “Tea Party” rebuttal of President Obama’s State of the Union speech was the most intriguing speech of Tuesday night, including the President’s and Representative Paul Ryan’s official GOP response. The Minnesota congresswoman outperformed the night’s other featured speakers regardless of the trio’s content or delivery. She won the night simply by claiming a place on the national stage alongside the President and the GOP’s official spokesman. Her actions are the latest example of American’s growing disdain for experience and wisdom. Rep. Bachmann is the Kim Kardashian of American politics. She has accomplished little more than being a...

Good speech for a Rethuglican. That's the consensus of the DUmmies on the Compromiser-in-Chief and his State of the Eunuch snoozefest last night. It was Obama's Nudnik Moment: The erstwhile Anointed One has become the Annoying One. Many threads to choose from; for now we'll go with . . . this THREAD, "So far, it's a super-progressive speech." and this THREAD, "Well DU has become quite the Obama bash fest...." and this Pitt THREAD, "Is this as bad as I think it is?" There's more where those came from, so if PJ wants to do a SOTU DUFU later,...

Definition of NUDNIK: a person who is a bore or nuisance [from Yiddish - Websters]. ... President Obama's speech was so dull, and so without relevance to what will occur in the 112th Congress, that moving on from it with good speed is no doubt the smartest thing to do, although a few words seem to be demanded. (I had hoped the mixed-up seating of Republicans and Democrats together would at least result in a few fist-fights, but no such good fortune.) Even the AP, fact checking his laundry list this morning, is willing to pronounce it sheer fantasy. He...

For someone who is constantly lauded for his brilliance and high-mindedness, and who himself seems never to stop talking about bipartisanship and unity, President Obama never fails to be petulant, petty, hyper-partisan and, most problematically, hypocritical. After insisting at the outset of the speech that “we will move forward together, or not at all -- for the challenges we face are bigger than party, and bigger than politics” and that “we are part of the American family,” Obama once again set out to demonize a part of that America, the evil producers of 90 percent of our energy, the oil...

After claiming that the Nation was "poised for progress", the stock market was "roaring back" and the "back of the recession had been broken" he called the Nation to "win the future" through innovation, education and the rebuilding of our infrastructure. In the first half of the speech he also outlined a governing approach to accomplishing these policy goals which positioned federal funding and federal assistance as making it possible for us to "reinvent ourselves." The President told both chambers of Congress that we could be in our "Sputnik moment" explaining, "Our free enterprise system is what drives innovation. But...

Making the Tucson shooting about political extremism is misunderstanding mental illness and politicizing a tragedy. Freezing the current spending levels is making trillions of dollars of deficit the routine business of our country.
