Last night, President Obama delivered his third State of the Union address before Congress. Both Republican and Democratic lawmakers were present for the speech. Entitled “An America Built to Last,” Obama’s speech was touted to be monumental. Much to the dismay of Obama, he lived up to expectations and delivered the usual far-leftist talking points. President Barack Obama's State of the Union message Tuesday predictably sounded like a campaign kickoff. In this election year he used the bully pulpit to advance political strategy, rather than give an even-handed accounting of where he has brought the nation. Looking at the Federal Reserve's FOMC meeting schedule for the rest of the year one meeting looms politically large, the meeting on October 23-24 (September 12th a close second). This meeting takes place just two weeks before the November 6th Presidential election. A Fed decides to make a dovish move at this meeting, thereby rallying the markets just weeks before the election, there is no question it would have a psychological effect on voters in favor of the Obama administration.

Wondering what cliche President Obama will use first in his State of the Union speech on Tuesday? So are the oddsmakers. Paddy Power, Ireland's biggest bookmaking operation, is giving 8-1 odds that "We have more work to do" will be the first cliche the president is likely to drop.
