Partyer in Chief By Joel Stein Monday, Jun. 07, 2010 I don't know much about what the Tea Party stands for, but I do know it's my big chance to gain political power. Moving up in the Democratic or Republican Party would take decades, but the Tea Party is searching for leaders. Getting in on a movement early is how you get to be Sam Adams or Jesse Jackson or Obama Girl. For advice, I called Mark Williams, founder of the Tea Party Express, which raises millions of dollars by traveling in a bus and putting on shows with acts like...

The Tea Party Patriots have announced a milestone in the movement: 2 million people attended the April 15 Tea Party events across the country, and 2,000 groups are now voluntarily affiliated with the Tea Party Patriots through its web site www.TeaPartyPatriots.org. "This is a remarkable achievement for an organization that is just over a year old and run entirely by grassroots volunteers," said Mark Meckler, Co-Founder and member of the TPP National Coordinator Team. "What holds the Tea Party Patriots together is a belief in America's founding principles and a serious concern that our elected officials are bankrupting our future...

Today, in his guise as the Washington Post’s ombudsman, Andrew Alexander posted a discussion about the recent misreporting by the Old Media about the various “incidents” that supposedly occurred between the admittedly raucous tea party protesters and members of Congress in Washington, D.C., during the healthcare fight. But while Alexander finally makes some admissions on how the Old Media dropped the ball on these exaggerated reports, he still missed the point of the whole mess. Alexander starts his report off with an interesting rhetorical style. He writes about incidents as if they actually happened even as he admits later down...

Michigan Congressman Rep. Bart Stupak (D-MI) may very well hold the life or death of the Obamacare health plan in his hands. He has been one of the few shepherds of the Right-To-Life movement on the Democrat side in Congress. As the arguments over the size of the bill and whether or not a Senate supermajority could have held – at least until the election of Republican Scott Brown in January – not many in the nation’s capitol or the country knew very much about Congressman Stupak. It is this congressman who forcefully argued his moral convictions Thursday that...

Sarah Palin will not only help to re-launch Jay Leno’s second stint as The Tonight Show host but will serve as an example for other conservatives and those leaders in the Tea Party Patriot movement that late night can be a welcome home for its supporters and viewers. There are of course the naysayers on the left coast who believe that Jay Leno’s booking of Sarah Palin on The Tonight Show in such a high visibility slot only gives credence and support for a possible positioning of a run for the presidency in 2012 as well as a confirmation, of...

PRINCETON, MN – Freezing rain coated already slick roads on the 21st of January, making travel inconvenient, even by Minnesota standards. Despite the weather, as proceedings commenced in the Princeton library, late-comers to a Milaca Tea Party event continued to trickle in. Additional folding chairs were placed along the edge of the room to accommodate. The folk were plain, mostly older, orderly and attentive. The meeting opened with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Sue Bican took the floor and emceed a series of announcements and appeals for involvement. On February 4th, the start of the legislative session in...

From Florida to California, Conservatives Are Challenging Moderate RepublicansA political movement is sweeping the country, and taking politicians down. The most recent victim of "tea party" activists was Florida Republican Jim Greer, who resigned from as state party chairman this week, in part because of the activists' objections to his alliance with Florida's Republican governor, Charlie Crist, who is running for the U.S. Senate. The activists are vocally supporting Crist's opponent -- a young, outspoken conservative, Marco Rubio -- and some believe the tea party group may bring down Crist, too."As you know, there is a great debate in our party on...

I'm up with relatives in the Walla Walla, WA. area and ventured over to the Walla Walla Fair and Frontier Days Parade. I've been to it before and it seemed bigger than usual this year. As the entries went by one by one, it all lead up to the grand finale' which resulted in the ultimate in patriotism. First, a group of Tea Party Patriots marched by and they received a warm response from the spectators along the parade route. Following the Patriots was the first half of the motorcycle club called the Combat Veterans of America. They too received...

Like the cavalry, organized labor reportedly plans on swooping in to the rescue of beleaguered lawmakers who are getting shouted down by conservative activists at town-hall meetings during discussions of health-care overhaul legislation. The Huffington Post's Sam Stein reports that the AFL-CIO is calling on its troops to counter the anti-health care reform hecklers. An excerpt: The nation's largest federation of labor organizations has promised to directly engage with boisterous conservative protesters at Democratic town halls during the August recess. In a memo sent out on Thursday, AFL-CIO President John Sweeney outlined the blueprint for how the union conglomerate would...
