Texas A&M University says a shooter has been taken into custody near its campus in College Station. College Station police spokeswoman Rhonda Seaton tells CNN multiple people have been shot, including law enforcement, but she doesn't know the extent of the injuries.

Texas A&M University’s student Senate recently approved a bill that would no longer allow illegal immigrants attending the school to be eligible for in-state tuition rates. Since 2001, illegal immigrants in Texas have qualified for in-state tuition, which offers them a generous discount compared to out-of-state students attending the university. Texas A&M has 49,000 students, and about 300 are illegal immigrants. But while the student Senate voted 48-21 this month in favor of the bill, S.B. 63-11, the move isn’t sitting well with Student Body President Jacob Robinson. COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M University has issued a lockdown on its main campus, warnings students of a suspected gunman on campus. University spokesman Lane Stephenson says a campus bus driver was on his route around 4 p.m. Thursday when he reported seeing an individual carrying a weapon, possibly a rifle, near the student union. The university's Web site says there is a "Code Maroon." It says students should remain indoors while police search the buildings.

Let's not make things more complicated than they are. In the end, Texas A&M is sick and tired of living in the large shadow of the University of Texas. Sick and tired of Texas' success and money. Sick and tired of the never-ending arms race for newer and better facilities. Forget those arguments about travel and culture and television revenues. If Texas A&M jumps to the Southeastern Conference, it'll be because the Aggies have had enough of being compared to and defined by the Longhorns.
