LONDON, July 21 (Reuters) - Olympic organisers are "very alive" to the threat of a cyber attack on the London 2012 Olympics, made more challenging because of its evolving nature, senior Interior Ministry officials said on Tuesday. Ticketing systems, the transport network and hotel bookings as well as security are among potential targets. Olympic security officials are also planning for the possible diversion of aircraft to protect airspace around the venues from terrorist attacks, the officials said. The greatest threat to security at the Games is international terrorism, the government's latest "Safety and Security Strategy" report said.

FACEBOOK and TWITTER are technological slums swirling along in a sea of narcissism, designed to take the thought out of living, and slice life into in 30 second increments through the views of others; designed to distract people into believing they’re living the lives they’re designing on-line, designed to keep Oprah type petty trash information flowing and controlling the news cycle, keeping only the most mindless of thoughtless drivel in the news, while opening the private lives of users to rapists, pedophiles, identity theft and more. A more perfect vehicle could not have been invented in the fight for the...

LONDON (AP) — People around the world briefly experienced problems accessing Twitter on Thursday, a day before the 2012 Olympic Games are expected to cause a spike in use of the micro-blogging site. About three hours after the San Francisco-based company first acknowledged the problem by saying its engineers were "currently working to resolve the issue," Twitter said in a statement that the "site issue" had been resolved. It did not go into further detail on what caused the glitch — the second time in just over a month that the site has been hit by problems. Visitors to the...

Florida State's football coach has told his players they can't use their Twitter accounts for the rest of the year. Jimbo Fisher's move came after some players tweeted objectionable material on their Twitter sites in recent weeks, including one that quoted rap lyrics about killing police officers. The third-year Seminole coach wants his players to be as focused as possible and believes that social media can be a distraction, especially during the season.

Vice President Joe Biden will take questions from reporters on a White House press call today, and as has been the case in the past, the on-the-record conversation will be embargoed until the end of the call. The curious caveat -- who would write an article during the middle of the call? -- is a product of the post-Twitter presidential campaign, barring reporters from the beloved habit of tweeting remarks in real-time. But it begs the question: If it's going to be in an article 20 minutes later, why can't it be on Twitter right now?

SNIPPET: "I. When considering the matter of jihadis online, remember that most of what we think we know is based on analyses of the comments made by an handful of vocal activists. The vast majority of jihadis online, be they on forums or social networking sites[i], say nothing. Skillful translations and insightful analyses by definition tell us little about this potentially lethal yet silent majority."

We have already DUFUed the DUmmies, the KOmmies, and the HUffies. However, there is a whole new territory chock full of comedy gold...TWitties. I have to give credit to Michelle Malkin for coming up with the idea to DUFU the TWittie TWitter posts at her new BLOG. TWITCHY. Since there is more than enough TWittie comedy material to go around, I shall also follow suit by occasionally DUFUing the TWitties as well. In this first DUFU of the DUFU we shall begin with Michele's own DUFUs of the TWitties attempting to have an "insider" chat at #OccuChat but soon...

"I am not a 24-year-old gun-slinging killer from Aurora," James P. Holmes wrote on Facebook Friday morning. Holmes is a Denver man who shares first and last names with the suspect in the deadly shooting that took place at a midnight screening of the latest Batman movie, just hours before, James Eagan Holmes. As the investigation got under way in the shooting at the "The Dark Knight Rises" premiere, in which 70 members of the estimated 300-seat crowd were killed or injured, those looking for clues to make sense of it all went online for a digital footprint for the...

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Twitter will provide biannual reports about U.S. and foreign government demands for information about its users, just as Google has been doing for the past two years. The first batch of data posted Monday on Twitter's website shows the online messaging service processed 849 government requests about its users during the first half of this year. Twitter says it gave officials at least part of what they wanted 63 percent of the time.

An Australian Olympic swimmer has been criticised for posing in a bikini deemed 'too revealing' - but has started a copycat craze of people wearing the outfit. Triple gold medalist Stephanie Rice posted the picture of her in a two-piece designer swimsuit on Twitter earlier this week. The bikini - known as the 'tomb raider' - had been given to her as a birthday present from the designer Ellie Gonsalves. But critics blasted for the sports star for showing off in the costume which some claimed was 'too sexy'. One fan tweeted: 'Stephanie Rice posting a photo of herself in...

Lady M had to fly to Oregon on Father’s Day to give Oregon State’s commencement address... She got her own hoodie when she received an “honorary doctorate in public health for her work as first lady on fighting childhood obesity and improving health.” Obama also advised graduates to keep in close touch with the family and friends who are important to them, saying she never missed a chance to tell her father she loved him before he died from complications of multiple sclerosis. She fought tears as she recalled her mother’s assurances that her father was proud to be her...

A saucer-shaped object on a very wide flatbed truck had some people wondering if the government was moving a UFO in or near Washington, D.C., Wednesday night. The truck came south on I-270, then took the inner loop of the Capital Beltway from Montgomery County into Prince George's County. When motorists snapped photos of the strange object and posted them on Twitter, some people became concerned enough to call local police. One man called 911 in Prince George's County because, he said, he was concerned about a relative who lived along the route. Asked by a befuddled dispatcher what the...

A best-selling author questioning the origins of Islam in a new book has received death threats on the Twitter social networking website. Robert Spencer, director of the website “Jihad Watch,” questioned the source of Islam in a new book, “Did Muhammad Exist? An Inquiry into the Obscure Origins of Islam,” published by ISI Books. Spencer is also the author of The Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades), The Truth about Muhammad (both New York Times best-sellers) and is a columnist for FrontPage Magazine. But upon publication of his latest book, which theorized that the founder and prophet of...
