Pope Benedict XVI at the Easter Vigil Vatican City, Apr 7, 2012 / 03:54 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- Faith, which reveals God’s light to humanity, is the "true enlightenment," Pope Benedict XVI proclaimed on April 7 as he celebrated Christ’s resurrection at the Easter Vigil Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica. Pope Benedict explained that the "enlightenment" of faith, unlike that of scientific rationalism, enables "God’s light to break into our world, opening our eyes to the true light."Below, the full text of Pope Benedict's homily during the Easter Vigil:Dear Brothers and Sisters,Easter is the feast of the new creation. Many people in England have decided to undertake a great project, to prepare for the Pope's visit with prayer. London [kath.net] Bad premonitions and threats against the upcoming papal visit have proven enough on the English side: some want to make provocative gifts to him like imprisonment or law suits.

The 60 votes are there for ObamaCare to pass in the Senate. The only thing preventing a vote is a blizzard in Connecticut, where Joe Lieberman went home for Sabbath. So you might say that God is the reason, both for sending Joe home and for sending the snow storm. I'm beginning to think that it will take a miracle to stop this massive take-over of the health care industry. So I propose an ongoing Rosary vigil. How it works is that I begin by saying a Rosary. When I finish, I reply to this thread. Hopefully, someone else will...

Several hundred people including soldiers, families and friends gathered at a Fort Hood, Texas stadium Friday night for a candlelight vigil to remember the victims of Thursday’s shooting rampage that left 13 dead and 30 wounded. An Army chaplain offered prayers for the families and the victims. Chaplain Douglas Carver told the soldiers dressed in fatigues and black berets -- to “remember to keep breathing ... keep going.” God Bless America and Amazing Grace were sung as people clung to one another and bowed their heads. It was the first community gathering since the killings.

Democrats will take to the streets in Stroudsburg and other towns across the country tonight as a way to build public support for the national health care bill. "It's a candlelight vigil to memorialize the people who have been adversely affected by poor health care policy, or lack thereof, in the United States," said Patrick McDermott. McDermott is a legislative aide to state Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18, but said he is working the vigil on his own time. "I'm incredibly passionate about the need for health care reform in this county, and I want to lend my voice and efforts...

BEIJING (Reuters) - Ethnic Tibetan students staged a candle-lit vigil in Beijing on Monday, saying it was to pray for the dead, after authorities warned anti-Chinese rioters in the Tibetan capital to surrender. Police kept reporters well away from the peaceful protest by dozens of apparently ethnic Tibetan students gathered inside the Central University for Nationalities. It was a small, rare show of defiance in the host city of this year's Olympic Games, where Communist Party authorities are especially eager to prevent public shows of dissent. "It was only to pray for the souls of the dead," said an ethnic...

SEATTLE -- You may have heard about an uncanny cat that apparently has the ability to predict deaths at a Rhode Island retirement home. Now another nursing home is claiming it has its own feline barometer of the great beyond, and he's living out his nine lives in West Seattle. Ten-year-old tabby Buckwheat makes the rounds at the Providence Mount St. Vincent nursing home, blissfully unaware of the reputation that precedes him. Nurses at the facility claim that Buckwheat knows when a resident is about to die, and does his best to give comfort. "Climb in bed with the person,...

BOGOTA, Colombia May 30, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - On May 10th, hundreds of young people gathered in Bogota, Colombia before the national Constitutional Court in order to protest the legalization of abortion. Abortion was legalized on May 10, 2006, when the court decided to allow abortion in cases of rape and in case of any risk to the mother's health. The ambiguity of the ruling effectively made room for abortion in almost any situation. Colombia was the first country in Latin America to allow abortion, opening the door for many other Catholic countries to follow its example. Former state Treasurer Robert Vigil was acquitted Saturday on 23 counts of extortion and racketeering in the retrial of his public corruption case. Federal jurors found him guilty on just one count: attempted extortion. Vigil sat motionless as the counts were read in court shortly after 1 p.m. His wife, Viola, and other relatives began to cry as U.S. District Judge James Browning read "not guilty'' on each of the first of 23 counts. The attempted extortion carries a possible sentence of up to 20 years, but the judge could sentence him to as little as 12 months. No date...
