Bill Ayers and a University of Wyoming student filed suit against UW on Thursday, asking a federal judge for an injunction allowing Ayers to speak on campus later this month. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Cheyenne, comes three days after UW banned Ayers, a University of Illinois-Chicago education professor with a radical past, from using any university venue for a planned April 28 lecture. The lawsuit alleges the ban is unconstitutional under First Amendment rights to free speech and to assemble. In 1969, Ayers co-founded the Weather Underground, a Marxist-Leninist anti-war group that claimed responsibility for a...

WASHINGTON - The most influential national tea party group, backed by a $3 million campaign war chest, surprised Idahoans by endorsing freshman Rep. Walt Minnick's re-election bid. Not all local tea partyers were pleased. Minnick is the only Democrat in the nation to land an endorsement from the Tea Party Express, the most prominent national organization in the burgeoning political movement. -- SNIP -- "We don't know where the national tea party came up with the endorsement of Walt Minnick," said Russ Smerz of Tea Party Boise. "It's a little concerning to us that Tea Party Express would endorse someone...

SNIPPET: "The leadership of the Tea Party Express PAC came to the National Press Club on Thursday to herald its early successes and to unveil its expanded list of 2010 electoral targets." SNIPPET: "In an effort to show that the Tea Party Express PAC is not a “tool” of the Republican Party, but instead is an independent political force, Russo announced that the PAC is getting behind one conservative Democrat who has opposed President Obama’s agenda: Rep. Walt Minnick (ID-01). The decision to get behind Minnick is attention-grabbing because Republicans have fielded a strong candidate in that race: Iraq war...

As a Marine Corps Officer, we are taught to leave no man behind and this circumstance is no different. I support our military commanders on the ground in Afghanistan and know that we will continue to do everything we can to bring Pfc. Bergdahl home to Idaho. However, Walt Minnick recently made statements on this issue that can’t go unchallenged, suggesting the...

Ward's 18 years of experience of public service includes: service with the Marines on missions in Liberia, Cuba, Japan, Korea and as a company commander in Iraq; as an Operations Officer with the CIA in the Middle East, Africa, and Washington, DC; and as a Legislative Aide on Senator Kempthorne’s staff where he worked on commerce, defense, energy, transportation, and veteran’s issues for the people of Idaho. As a Democrat in a very red state, Idaho Congressman Walt Minnick knew from the day he was elected that he would have a hard time holding on to his seat in 2010. But there's also an interesting tale to be told about just which candidate the Republicans will put up to run against Minnick. Political blogger Randy Stapilus has the story about how Ken Roberts, the majority leader of the Idaho House, has racked up a slew of statehouse endorsements and is well-plugged into the Idaho GOP establishment - but now looks like he could get swamped by newcomer...

The man who swindled more than a million dollars from a Utah senior citizen is in prison tonight. It's the conclusion to a 2-year investigation by KUTV’s Bill Gephardt. Luella Day was set for life with more than a million dollars to her name; that is until she trusted a man from her Mormon Ward to invest her money for her. Wednesday, that man, Daniel Merriman admitted he never invested the money. And now he's going to jail. In Provo's fourth district court Merriman stood shackled before the judge. He's pleading guilty to fraud for taking $1.2 Million from a...

School wants $52,000 for expenses related to suit against former professor. The University of Colorado is asking for more than $52,000 from Ward Churchill to recover costs the school incurred fighting a lawsuit filed by the former ethnic studies professor. The total tab, filed in Denver District Court last week, includes individual expenses ranging from $2 for courthouse parking to $22,095 for "in-trial video and visual exhibits." "The university believes that what we've filed is both fair and appropriate for some of the expenses that we incurred during the trial," said Ken McConnellogue, spokesman for the University of Colorado system....

Ward Churchill (remember him?) references the book, Smallpox and the American Indian, during his testimony in his civil suit against the University of Colorado at the City and County Building in Denver, Colorado March 23, 2009. Churchill is suing the University of Colorado for wrongful termination. AP photo. Today, I picked up 2 kids I carpool to the gymnastics club from their magnet school, as I do every Monday. Apparently, there was no mention about Columbus Day. Nada. Zippo. Nothing negative or positive. But they did watch a performance by dancers dressed like Mayan/Aztec Indians; and the older one said...

CALDWELL, Idaho – While the national media wonder what Sarah Palin’s doing and what she’ll do next, she’s holed up working on her book, her father said Friday. “Sarah’s been out of town for almost a month now,” said Chuck Heath, who is on a campaign swing through Idaho for GOP congressional candidate Vaughn Ward. “I don’t know exactly where she is, but she’s writing her book. She e-mails me quite frequently. She asks, ‘Oh, what happened on June 13, 1978?’ This is material for her book.” Palin, the former Alaska governor whose turn as John McCain’s running mate last year...

Political newcomer Vaughn Ward basked in some star power as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's father and father-in-law began a three-day swing for his congressional campaign in Meridian on Thursday. Ward, 40, of Eagle, is an Iraq War veteran. Born in Twin Falls and a Boise State grad, he returned to Idaho in 2007. He was working on the 2008 McCain-Palin campaign in Nevada when he met Palin's father, Chuck Heath, an Idaho native, and Todd Palin's dad, Jim. They back Ward's bid to be the GOP challenger to Democrat Walt Minnick in 2010

BOISE, Idaho — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's father and father-in-law will campaign in Idaho for Republican congressional candidate Vaughn Ward. Ward was a campaign assistant for GOP presidential hopeful John McCain, whose running mate in 2008 was Palin. That's where Ward met Chuck Heath, Palin's father and a former Idaho resident, and Jim Palin, her father-in-law. Campaign events are slated for Boise, Sandpoint, Wallace and Coeur d'Alene, from Aug. 27 to Aug. 29. Ward spokesman Ryan O'Barto says, "They're going to be talking about how Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi are taking our country in the wrong direction." Ward...

WASHINGTON — The fathers of Sarah and Todd Palin will be joining forces this month to help an Idaho congressional candidate who's getting an early start on his 2010 election bid. Both Chuck Heath and Jim Palin will be in Idaho later on this month to help out Vaughn Ward, a Republican candidate for Congress. They’ll be attending events for Ward at the end of the month in Boise and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Ward's campaign spokesman said. The former Alaska governor's father is an Idaho native who graduated from Sandpoint High School in northern Idaho. Palin, Sen. John McCain’s vice-presidential...

Vaughn Ward, a former Marine who led a combat tour in Fallujah, Iraq and current GOP House candidate in Idaho, says that "two Alaskans" are coming to campaign for him. ..... Two of his donors are Jim and Faye Palin of Wasilla, Alaska — the father-in-law and mother-in-law of former GOP vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Which suggests he might have a connection or two up in that state.

(This is part 2 of an article.) Recently neo-fascists opposed to Sonia Sotomayor, Barack Obama’s nominee to the United States Supreme Court, have argued that she doesn’t respect the “sanctity” of the law and chooses instead to be guided by her personal beliefs. But if there is such a thing as “sanctity” of the law, why are so many Supreme Court cases decided by five-four votes split along ideological lines? Where is this concern when self-loathing Clarence Thomas uses his experiences at Yale University, not the law, to dismantle affirmative action programs, or when Antonin Scalia unethically hears cases where...
