About 30 Egyptian mummies found in ancient cache [2009]

Egyptian archaeologists have found about 30 mummies and at least one unopened sarcophagus in a burial chamber about 4,300 years old... in the desert on the western side of the Step Pyramid of Saqqara, one of the earliest large stone structures in the world, dating from about 2,650 BC.

The mummies appear to vary in age. One dates from about 640 BC while the unopened sarcophagus, which is made of limestone and sealed with plaster, is probably much older...

...another sarcophagus, made of wood, had not been opened since pharaohnic times but Karar said ancient grave robbers probably reached it first. Inside it , the archaeologists found the complete mummy of a man called Badi Enhery, according to the inscriptions on the sarcophagus, Karar said. Most of the mummies were in niches in the walls of the chamber, which is about 11 meters (34 feet) below ground level.

Just adding to the catalog, not sending a general distribution.

I'd ping this, but I'm not 100 percent sure there hasn't been a topic about this. I found a bunch of false positives, turned out to be other large caches of mummies.

The mummies appear to vary in age.

You can tell which one is oldest by the way he moves his dentures around, step farts, and says "WHAT?" a lot.

Another mummy cache was found? Why would anyone need to own more than one mummy? I bet this was on a compound too. ;^)

same thing is happening in mexico

except they don’t find caches of mummies

they find caches of recently deceased bodies

on the bright side

the way things are in egypt now, they will prolly be finding the same thing all over egypt too

so that begs the question...

Mummies have a lot of cachet.

That probably explains the myrrh.

If I had that many bodies buried under the house I’d want to burn myrhh by the pound. And frankincense and patchouli and how about some ‘o that lilac bathroom spray? lol

LOL! I don't mean to make jokes every time you post a thread. Really. I do appreciate the science and the history. But some of the material writes itself.

It's not so much that. You have to be prehensile to even see the joke.

HEY! I'm not prehensile. Dad clipped my tail before they let me out into public. I walk so upright I could be mistaken for a congress-critter.

That's the word for when someone who is really bright (prehensile) shoves their cranium up their posterior (posthensile).

I wonder what happens to the posthensile?

They are politicians who currently hold office.

"Wow. I voted for the O because he sounded so smart in the campaign. But now he has his head up his ass."

It's in my book.
