Skulls discovered within the boundaries of ancient London a quarter of a century ago are now believed to be those of gladiators, brutally killed for the amusement of Roman audiences.

The haul of 39 skulls, discovered beneath the site of the Guildhall in the City of London, were discovered in 1988 and were believed to have originated from human remains washed out of burial sites by the Walbrook, one of the area’s lost rivers.

But now after 25 years in storage, the remains have been re-examined by an historian from the Museum of London, who believes they are the first evidence of gladiators in London....

Here in Warrenton, Virginia a few years ago, a skeleton was found in an old house during a renovation of an upstairs wall. Everyone thought we had big murder news but turned out to be a forgotten relic from an initiation right for the Odd Fellows, who used to own the house in the early to mid 1900s. Talks with some of the older group members even traced the origins of the skeleton. All is well.

By the way, we should be on the lookout for the follow-up article. The last few lines in this one indicate more skulls found under the site of Bedlam Hospital.

Just wondering out loud if the “doctors” at Bedlam might have buried a few of their mistakes.

It's good to have beliefs.

Pretty sure Bedlam was a type of insane asylum.

If memory serves, “Bedlam” became the way to refer to the actual name of the place, Our Lady of Bethlehem Hospital.
