Italian-Spanish archeologists to launch dig into Luxor tomb

An Italian-Spanish archeological team on Friday prepared to launch a dig in an extraordinary tomb whose discovery was announced six months ago.

The tomb belongs to May, an important government officer of the XVIII dynasty, an era ruled by pharoahs such as Tutankhamon and the "heretic" pharoah Akhenaton, who established a sun cult dedicated to the sun disk Aton, among others...

The team came upon the tomb of May through a horizontal tunnel located within the Min, which was also visited two centuries ago by the legendary Jean Francois Champollion, considered the father of Egyptology... The few images available show extraordinary frescoes on all of the walls, but await approval for release from the Egyptian antiquities ministry, which has collaborated on the project. Next to the two main tombs there is another, Kampp-327, which is still shrouded in mystery. The identification of May was made possible thanks to a funerary taper, found by chance as the team entered the tomb.

I think there's at least one topic about the find a few years ago, but I couldn't find it.

Tutankhamon and the "heretic" pharoah Akhenaton

'wonder if there'll be anything that sheds more light on Akhenaton - maybe something else that escaped the attempted purging of all depictions, inscriptions, etc, of him after he was banished.

We can be sure that nothing will be made public which contravenes the current Egyptian narrative.

I came to realize this comic narrative stuff after someone researched the material used for the mummy process, and found tobacco. Naturally, you can’t suggest that in public because you only find tobacco in the Americas, and the Egyptians never went there...as defined by their concrete-history episode.

I’d almost say it similar to the Catholic Church practice of no round-Earth, until science out-ruled them.

Which means Zahi Hawass is still negotiating his television deal.

Thanks - I had forgotten the bit about tobacco.

BTW: some think that the huge ancient copper mines in upper Michigan (the land of Punt?) were mined by the Egyptians - as there is no way that Indians used as much copper as came from the mines; and in fact that copper may have fueled the Copper Age - as no other mines have been found to account for the tonnage used by the Egyptians and others.

Hawass hasn’t held that position since 2011.

I’d heard of much the same thing but it was the Phoneticians or Carthaginians (pretty much the same folks?) who’d worked the mines in that AO.

The same people were credited with starting the “the big ocean out there turns to mud and you’ll get stuck!” thing to help keep competitors from the Med from intruding on their source.

The same people were credited ...

That would likely be the ancient “Libyans” or “Westerners” - those who lived from mid-Nile delta to the Atlantic coast, who are also may have started the rumor of Atlantis (for the same reason): just sail off into the Atlantic - don’t go messing with our trade routes to England and elsewhere ... about 4000 BC or earlier until the end of the Old Kingdom. You know these folks as the builders of megalithic structures like the Stonehenge, those in Malta, Libya, Egypt, and elsewhere near coasts and rivers.
