Lucy team members presented the completed mission design, showing that they have met all the technical challenges of the mission and were ready to start building the actual hardware.

At Lockheed Martin in Colorado over the course of four days, an independent review board, comprised of reviewers from NASA and several external organizations, heard all about the mission design.

The Trojan asteroids orbit the Sun at a distance of Jupiter. The mission is set to launch in October 2021; with boosts from Earth's gravity, the spacecraft is expected to complete a 12-year journey to seven different asteroids.

Lucy in the sky with diamonds.

Are the trojans of the same general make up as the asteroids in the asteroids, mineralogically? If so, does it indicate that they are a former planet (not Alderon)?

I knew that there asteroids 60 degrees ahead of Jupiter and 60 degrees behind Jupiter (roughly), but I thought they were all called Trojans...didn’t know that one group had the label Greeks. Never heard of Hildas before.

Why? Are there not more practical uses for this funding? Are we ever going to tighten our belts and try to catch up financially before wasting funds on unproductive hobbies like this?

Nasa gets a lot done for a mere 20 billion a year. Contrast that with the military that has a budget of 800 billion. My guess is the military wastes more money than Nasas annual budget. Then of course we have the 21 trillion dollar debt. 20 billion wouldn’t even make an interest payment.

A penny saved is a penny earned. We have to start somewhere and chip away at it little by little until we have control again including the military, .gov budgets, and frivolous grant awards for every impractical project under the sun.

But what are we going to do? Go figure out how to put them back together? At some point we need to get a handle on what we “really need to do” instead of just “what we want to do” or our great great grandchildren are screwed.

We are BROKE, and I’m convinced we don’t care one bit about the future of our own kids because of things like this.
