If you are just getting started preparing your family survival kit, it probably seems like a huge, daunting task. You are not alone, and I was in the same boat just a few months ago. So I decided to get started and make my first purchase.

The difficult task for most people will be how to balance the cost of long term emergency supplies and food for your family, while still balancing the monthly budget. The only advice I can give is the way things are going, money doesn’t appear to be worth anything in the future. And in fact at some point, food may be worth much more than any money you have in your pocket. I am not suggesting to act foolishly, but when it comes to protecting your family, it is something to consider.

I built my disaster kit since 2001. MREs, water, ammo, etc.

I could last a year I think with just my stuff.

At cocktails parties liberals say if in the event of a x disaster who would want to live. I say me!

Very good post! I haven’t viewed your mediafire site yet but liked the idea that others should be prepared. My neighbor always said “I ain’t gonna be runnin’ a soup kitchen!” it is in everybody’s best interest to at least get the basics to include analgesics, prescription medication, and alternative medicine to your stash.
Essential oils, Naturopathy, and Herbology are my suggestions outside of the prescription realm. in fact you can check out my sisters site to look into the Essential Oils. I am not familiar with the rules for advertising so ping me and I will send you the site.

I’ve always been curious about the backpack kits... are they for people who live in cities or suburbia very close to cities? If your house has access to fresh water, and you are well armed and have some source for food. Why leave?

We recently decided to test our food supplies, to see just how long they would last.

The result was shocking and depressing. I would have swore we had 2-3 months of canned food in the pantry. In reality it wasn’t even close.

For those who feel press for time you might look over a kit I saw at Walmart (Times must be getting hard when even Walmart is getting ready!). You can look it over at:

Its made for three days for four people. I am not recomending it, but it does look like it covers the essentials and it would be a lot better than nothing!

Your position may quickly become untenable if you're in a large urban/suburban area. IOW, sticking around may get you killed. I strongly urge you to make arrangements with friends / relatives who live well outside such areas and who also live in small communities. Complete isolation will work against you.

And have something to bring to the table. And by this I mean useful skills more than just stuff.

Be prepared to bail at the earliest hint of real trouble. If you hear the words 'bank holiday' in the media, GO! GO! GO! Because it's going to get really, really ugly, really really quickly.

Anticipate that you may well have to walk to get where you're going, and that you may have to fight to get there. At theend of the day, it comes down to what you feel that you life is worth. And the lives of your loved ones. Don't let them down.
