It's not so much a miscalculation, as something missing in their perturbation models. I don't know if they account for relativity effects, for example -- but if they're not, they'll see an error.

It all boils down to the source of the error. It might be nothing more complicated than trajectory determination error.

Obviously, we don't know everything. Still, the mechanics and precision used by the rocket science types is absolutely amazing. For example, Voyager 2 took 12 years to reach Neptune and arrived at a precise location only 1 SECOND different than what had been predicted. Heavy, heavy stuff.

There you have it! The WaPo tells us of Obama’s gravitas and a Princeton (Ivy League, you know!) astronomer tells us that it might be caused by WIMPs.

Voila! Mystery solved; it is Obama’s fault. Just factor his current location on the planet when the spacecraft does its fly-by and all the orbital calculations work out just fine.

If only there had been a satellite fly-by on Obama’s birthday then a really good astronomer/astrologer could tell us what side of the planet he was born. Hmmmm, inquiring minds want to know! /sarc

It's called the Goron Effect, or in simple laymans term's "Global Warming" causing the pressure increase in radiation emitted or reflected.

Sheesh. Across the universe? Nothing's been sent across the universe yet. Not even the galaxy, much less the diameter of the solar system.

True...it's really flying. The problem at Pluto, with all that speed, is it really cuts down on the observation time. Too bad it doesn't have brakes.

That would be a fudge factor.

The problem is that current models produce very accurate predictions for, inter alia, earth satellites, without fudge factors.

Gravity models are extremely well characterized as are the effects of solar radiation and other heavenly bodies. They explain and predict the orbits of artificial down to centimeters per day, or very small fractions of a millimeter per second, in the order of 0.005 mm/sec. 13.5 mm/second is HUGH, SERIES!

Unless you tell where in the model you think the 13.5 mm/second belongs, which parameters you care to modify and how your results are consist with satellite observations, your suggestion is useless.

It is provocative that all the anomalies occur on hyperbolic orbits, orbits for which the smaller body has escape velocity. Sir Isaac would be perturbed, since his laws, corrected by Dr. Einstein, used to work in both cases.
