Anyone with sense knows to build on a knoll, not at creekbed level or underwater. How smart could these folks have been?

Now I hear that song, and all I can think of is Billy Batts getting his.

And if the Dutch aren’t available, tell the residents of Holland... or the people of the Netherlands.

Another thing about Crete that never seems to get mentioned is that it is where the basic way of life the Spartans later adopted originated.

Conquest and enslavement of the natives and totalitarian militarization of society to keep them enslaved.

My wife the book nut would love the library. I love the outside layout and landscape. I shudder at the number of pounds it takes to keep it up. Of course if I could afford a place like that, landscaping costs wouldn’t matter.

Yeah, looks like it has a view of water, and is pretty modern, but some things are still best done the old fashioned way, hire it done. ;’)

Khazaran-Atil isn’t the only Khazar city under water. Sarkel was flooded in 1952 with the creation of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir

Thanks. Mindblowing, I remember this topic well, and it’s nearly nine years old.
