Is Trumps movement fascist rather than conservative?

I am honestly getting a little scared of what I see happening in politics at the moment. Trump seems to be creating a personality cult where his supporters don’t seem to care what they are supporting provided he attacks the people they don’t like. I am starting to feel a little bit like a German citizen in the early 1930’s watching normally rational conservatives start to cultishly follow a strong leader who they thought would fight back and stop the communists.

Seriously if I had to pick a political philosophy for the Trump movement I would say that it is fascism for the following reasons.

1. Trump's support of and past involvement in crony capitalism (such as his support for using the condemnation power of the state to take property for private parties with good government connections).

2. Trump's followers extreme desire for a strong leader and almost mystical belief that he can fix things without caring what his beliefs or idealogy is.

3. Trump's support for a type of nationalism that is starting to push into the overtly rascist and nativist realm.

4. The delight that Trump seems to take in personally demeaning and attempting to destroy anyone who opposes him. And the way that his followers cheer him on in so including supporting him using sexist slurs against Megan Kelly for doing her job as a journalist.

5. Finally, the fact that Trump and his supporter seem to have no concern for the constitution or the separation of powers.

Seriously? Number 3. You are playing the race card?

It certainly seems like it. You don't have to be a Trump supporter to be disgusted when "conservative Republicans" start using rhetoric straight from the Frankfurt School.

Well, the outside agitators in Ferguson MO are chanting “We’re ready for war” already.

They do not resemble original thoughts at all. They look exactly like the liberal and RINO screeds that abound on the web right now.

And zotbait like dschapin are crapping that stuff all over Free Republic. Just like they do every four years - right on schedule.

Friday is going to be a slow day for me. Think I'll peruse his posting history, then. Betcha I find all sorts of yummy treats for the Viking Kitties in there.

What does “nativist” mean?

And why is that such a bad thing at this juncture, when immigration standards have been turned upside down? We used to bring in people who wanted to love this country, assimilate and make it their home through hard work and initiative. We also brought in people with top-tier skills. And we limited immigration to those from countries whose culture harmonized with ours. In recent decades, since Teddy Kennedy pushed through his third-world immigration bill, we have multiplied exponentially the number of legal immigrants, we have favored people from third-world cultures, we now tell them at their citizenship ceremony that they don't have to adopt our culture (I heard it with my own ears) but can keep their own (so then why did they leave?), and we no longer ask them to vow to serve the U.S. in the military if there is a draft. No, that burden would be borne by the "natives." And that's just the legal immigration; illegal immigration is completely out of control, with welfare systems, schools, roads and hospitals staggered by the costs.

These cries of "nativist" are just a re-branding of the familiar cries of "racist" and "bigot". And just as unbecoming of the people flinging that particular poo.

What does “nativist” mean?

Just like "racist" it means somebody winning an argument with a liberal.

Four out of five isn’t bad. Trump is no racist.

But as you correctly note, Trump is no conservative, either. We have better options.
