I really don't care that I catch all kinds of criticism for buying a Toyota Prius

I would wager that even if you're someone who bleeds Ferrari red and has bones made from old Chevrolet Camaros, you would consider buying a Prius, if you honestly considered the decision..... Seeing it actually happen in reality is another story. What a glorious car. I don't care if it's the automotive equivalent of eating low-fat plain yogurt. I'm happy to suffer that pain. Besides, it's a comfortable car. The seats aren't benches of wood. You can make the AC blow as hard as you want. It can play classic rock, and play it sort of loud.

The Prius cultivates in the driver the closest thing to a condition of peace I've ever experienced behind the wheel. It also makes you a better citizen: You embrace the speed limit... I don't even think this is demographic destiny. The Prius isn't really an expensive car. You can be a tree-hugging liberal and get one and that makes sense. But I don't know why someone who leans rights and wants to chop down a lot of trees wouldn't want to spend less than $250 a year on gas.

Beyond that, all the Prius haters are completely misguided in their hatred — but not because the Prius is a magnificent car deceptively cloaked in sheets of boring. Rather, because the Prius is the first successful car that isn't trying to be a car.

Yes we own a 2015 Prius V, and I love it! My wife only me to allows me to it drive under direct supervision, for fear that I might use the POWER mode. Drove Suburbans and pickups forever. I LOVE THE PRIUS!

The Sub we drove to Alaska was the BEST EVER, but in a few years may move to the #2 spot?

Yes, I would drive the ALCAN in our Prius, but avoid the Cassier.

“It also makes you a better citizen: “

That’s offensive.

Don’t buy Jap cars.

If I had to drive 10-15 miles or more to work every day I would likely buy a hybrid. Not necessarily a Prius but something very economical.

We have 3 Priui in the neighborhood.(plural for Prius=Priui?)

Nothing wrong with saving money - maybe some pin striping and ghost flames? Coming home the other day, we had a Chevy Volt in front of us and a Tesla following behind.

I don’t understand the premise of being criticized for buying a Prius.

Who was critical and why would one care?

Drive whatever you want, so long as you don’t tell you’re a superior person because of it.

The Prius is a real car, conventional range, roomy and flexible if a bit slow. If gas had gone to the predicted $7.00 per gallon (”like Europe”), nobody would be calling it the Pious.

FWIW, I did a back of the Excel trade study, assuming 15,000 miles driving a year and a 10 year economic life, cost of money at 6%, comparing the Prius and Corolla. The break-even point is gasoline at $6.00 per gallon. Your mileage may vary.

The selling point in the Prius is the feeling of membership in a club, the “social desirability bias” factor. NTTAWWT.

I don’t object to people owning a Prius. I object to the Prius owners who expect me to haul hay in one...

We know a family that has two Ford Fusion Hybrids. The hybrid version had 20 more total horsepower than the base engine did (191 HP).

Nice cars.

I’m not sure I’m sold on a hybrid as a daily driver. Though I’m not opposed to an all electric snazzy golf cart as a daily commuter, as I live really close to work.

When you buy a Prius, you are required to go 5 miles below the limit when in the left lane.

There is nothing wrong with saving money. People I know tell me that the Prius is one of the most dependable cars on the road. Toyota seems to know what they are doing.

There is no sense in trying to please other people. Some of the same folks who will criticize you for buying a Japanese car were critical of people who bought GM cars a few years back. And, what about the folks who got sucked into buying Hummers. They received a ton of criticism.

Buy a car that suits your needs and don't worry about the idiots.

When they come up with something than can haul 1500 pounds of fuel and tools while pulling 14,000 pounds, I might look into it.

F’ the Priapism and holier-than-thou Priapism owners. The problem is the relentless war on energy, not Americans wanting to drive larger vehicles.
