So many potential jokes.

But out of respect for your situation, I will hold back. Hope you find a solution.

Mine is like a mosquito droning (loudly) in my ears. I did read recently that the drug oxytocin MAY have some properties which help.

This may sound stupid, but there is a trick that involves covering your ears and tapping the back of your head (you can use your favorite search engine to find on the internet). It may have to be periodically repeated, especially at first, but as someone who has been plagued with tinnitus since my 20’s, it worked for me as a permanent fix— it is now so minor I don’t even notice it; and on those now very rare occasions when it does act up I just do the trick.

There is a therapy that involves isolating the frequency of the sound and then bombarding you ear with sound on that frequency until your brain filters it out. There are apps for the iPhone that can generate tones on the appropriate frequency.

My case is milder than yours (more of a hissing) so I haven't pursued this treatment; Just heard about it from an ENT.

And for those of you who wonder how tinnitus happens...
SOMETIMES it is ASPIRIN caused....so be careful.

I have been taking Biotin and that seems to have
reduced the volume. Still have a hiss but not the
loud ringing or tones, at one time it was like
jingle bells. Don’t know of anything that totally
works though.

Good luck.

I’ve got constant ringing in both ears. Louder in rt ear. Also, unrelated according to the dr, significant hearing loss in the rt ear. He says my loss is minimally due to loud noises. Like you, I get no solution from my dr...also, my hearing loss is more of a loss of clarity. In other words, I hear something but can’t make out the words. My ringing presently is not too bad. I hope it doesn’t get more intense. I assume you have had a comprehensive hearing test by a real ear dr... Good luck.

I’ve had it for years, last visit I was told to have my ears cleaned. ?? As I type the steam pipe sound is still going strong. It varies, but most of the time I just have to ignore it the best I can. I don’t see it as a suicidal thing, its just a nuisance that I managed to have lived with for about 50 years.

There are many reports of improvement or complete reversal of this condition be following a low-carb (ketogenic) diet. Watch the podcast below to get the science behind this.

Have you ever tried Lipo-Flavonoid to see if it helps? One ENT doctor in my area recommended it. It is available over-the-counter.

I’m 63 and have had it for quite a while myself. It seems to be actually getting better lately. Maybe I’m just getting used to it.

If it gets real bad I find that what helps is pushing a pipe cleaner through one ear and pulling it out the other.

YMMV

>>>> My doctor doesn’t have any answers.

My doctor dismisses my complaint about tinnitus (it gets worse in recent years in my case, not just an annoyance to the point of constant distraction) every single time I brought it up with her.

Don’t know how to make her truly listen to my complaint.

Take a hot shower.
Inhale deep, close your eyes, hold your nose shut and then exhale forcing the air to your ears till you feel a pop.

I’m 53... I got it instantly in 98 during an allergic reaction that drove me out of the state I was in.
I went from silence to full volume in a single second, and it never went away.

After about the 3rd or 4th day, I thought I would surely get suicidal... it drove me literally batty for 2 months. Over time, I got more and more used to it. It hasn’t interfered too much with hearing except things near the same frequency.

I suppose that if it disappeared the same way it came on, the silence would drive me just as crazy for a while.

The problem itself is fluid buildup in the inner ear.
Taking diaretics (which dehydrate you) are reported to relieve symptoms somewhat, but I never bothered trying.

There is an over the counter ear health supplement which if you take every day offers a little hope for some.
I bought some, but never took it. (lol)

I occasionally hear news of possible breakthroughs.

Someone here has a pinglist that I’m on for tennitus sufferers.

Staying busy doing something or working always seems to make it more tolerable.

I have Menears and with it Tinnitus and hearing loss.

I’d suggest finding a ENT that specializes in tinnitus. Next cut down on salt and stress, and drink plenty of water.

According to the Mayo Clinc website, white noise machines often make the condition more bearable. I used those machines for many years when I was working very early morning hours and they helped mask the outside noise of the daytime world when I was trying to sleep.

"White noise machines. These devices, which produce simulated environmental sounds such as falling rain or ocean waves, are often an effective treatment for tinnitus. You may want to try a white noise machine with pillow speakers to help you sleep. Fans, humidifiers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners in the bedroom also may help cover the internal noise at night."

>>> 2. Do cochlear implants help tinnitus?

Not an option for you.

This is for total hearing loss.

Rush Limbaugh went through this, and had to totally re-learn how to interpret sounds with them.

But he had gone totally deaf.

If you are taking any non-steroidal anti-inflammatories stop. See if it changes the volume. If I take even one pill the volume goes up.

Go to Google and plug in every medication and over the counter drug you are taking and search for side effects. “Naproxen tinnitus,” for example.

Also, what has recently changed since this started? Food, stress, exercise, anything. Make a list. Then start a diary and do some experiments, increasing, decreasing the item in question. Note that it could take days to clear the effects of a single pill.

Good luck.

I have tinnitus. Mine is a high pitched sound in both ears. Also have 50% hearing loss. Getting my blood pressure under control cut the volume of my tinnitus about in half. I fall asleep every night with earbuds in listening to podcasts and also keep a fan on for white noise. Hope this helps.

My ENT said there is a known cure: a drug used in open heart surgery was found to stop the various sounds. Scientists are trying to put it in pill form. My neurologist said that there is no known cure.
