In a new study, a Yale-led research team uncovers how a very low calorie diet can rapidly reverse type 2 diabetes in animal models.
The research team investigated the effects of a very low calorie diet (VLCD), consisting of one-quarter the normal intake, on a rodent model of type 2 diabetes.
Using this approach the researchers pinpointed three major mechanisms responsible for the VLCD's dramatic effect of rapidly lowering blood glucose concentrations in the diabetic animals. In the liver, the VLCD lowers glucose production by: 1) decreasing the conversion of lactate and amino acids into glucose; 2) decreasing the rate of liver glycogen conversion to glucose; and 3) decreasing fat content, which in turn improves the liver's response to insulin. These positive effects of the VLCD were observed in just three days.

Its been exceedingly hard to get the details of what actually was done, but all of the doctors he saw for years who said he could never get better say this was a miracle.
My wife will try to dig further for details.

Thank you, it’s much appreciated. Anything, so matter how small, that makes new inroads would be put into effect. It’s sometimes an uphill battle just to maintain the status quo. Good for instance: my feet, overall, are going OK at the moment. A little weirdness in the toes, but that’s almost background noise to me anymore. But we had a front come through last night that brought rain with it, and now we’re expecting a hard freeze tonight in its wake. I woke up this morning, and both feet were not only cold and numb, my left foot - the entire foot - kept cramping into a tight ball which needed both hands to massage straight. It was an hour before I could walk without a pronounced limp. If you’ve never had an entire foot cramp up into a claw, you’re missing a rare experience in discomfort that your brain is not ready to process. We have a fire going tonight and I’m wearing my Muk Luks, so I can actually walk without looking like a trained chimp.
In combing through other studies, it appears cell/gene therapy is coming in the near future. Otherwise, it looks worthwhile to put in place the following:
- Adequate Vitamin D levels
- Replace red meat and chicken with fish.
- Do not use cooking fats with higher Omega-6 content (soy, cottonseed, corneven canola all have high levels of Omega 6 fat, which are pro-inflammation). Consider using PAM or coconut oil high in medium chain triglycerides.
- Shift to a low/lower carb diet
- Reduce calories
- Coffee, cocoa, and tea may be helpful if without sugars and fats. Look up CocoaVia for a cocoa beverage without sugars or fats.
- Eat more antioxidant items with minimal calories (antioxidants generally reduce inflammation).
Also, adequate Vitamin A and C levels.
I was diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency. Put on a prescription supplement twice weekly. I pop two men’s health supplement gummies every morning. Tasty, too.

My wife had brain and spine trauma that caused her feet and hands to do something similar for a while. I know how alarming that can be.
They are missing the gut bug component. Sure, cutting calories helps. But people get stuck eating the incredible barrage of sugars and carbs (but I repeat myself) in the standard American diet. The most important thing is to stop eating the carbs. No breads, pastries, cereals, fruits. Eat protein and fat from healthy animals, veggies of all kinds (including tubers for the gut bugs). You will change your gut bacteria biome composition. Get populations in your gut who actually crave roasted veggies and not sugars. It really works. It would be better to control the content over the calories. There is no way to eat like I describe above and keep type 2diabetes. It simply isnt possible.

Check out videos by Dr. Berg on youtube.
He is a DC not an MD and I cannot vouch for anything diabetes related. However, I have found his videos to be useful and efficacious in other areas such as diet.
