When I was in, LTJG was automatic since no in flight training had yet been winged. Selection to LT was 85%; LCDR 65%, to CDR 55% and so on. Selection to CAPT was much lower; in my year group, it was 6%. Of course, the year you came up for promotion was also important.
Those are about the same percentages we saw in the Army during my years on active duty.
Nobody I ever knew was contacted prior to my being issued a secret clearance for the Army.
My parents told me a couple of suited guys came to the house and asked questions.
I never asked them about what or anything ... I was pretty stoked for having achieved a secret clearance.
Radio teletype operator, 05C20, Uijongbu, Korea , 51st Sig. Bn.
. Sunday night we received a top secret flash message over a non secure teletype from a fellow station on the Pacific side of the canal.
My immediate response was to contact my NCOIC who was off for the weekend and when he arrived, he had to contact the CO of the facility.
The following morning (Monday) I was interviewed by the CO. This was a major concern for me because the following morning I was about to fly home for my first 30 day leave in almost two years in Panama. Nothing major occurred during the briefing and by the time I got back from my leave, I had been upgraded to a Top Secret clearance...........LOL!
The Christmas underwear bomber flew from Africa to Amsterdam, then boarded a Delta Air Lines flight non-stop to Detroit.
As the plane was making its final descent into Michigan, the muzzie tried to detonate the explosives in his (under) clothing, and an American passenger overpowered the guy and stopped him.
Meanwhile, the terrorist’s father had warned U.S. authorities, but they did nothing to stop him from boarding the U.S. bound plane in Amsterdam.
The shoe bomber was another guy, a half Jamaican muzzie who tried to blow up an American Airlines flight that was enroute from Paris to Miami. He also failed.
Ex-Ranger: Communism Will Win Soldier Discharged from Army
It's unfortunate that his discharge took so long, he should have been dishonorably discharged following his graduation after posting those pictures of himself with the Che T-shirt.
Second, he should be required to reimburse the government for the total cost of his military/college education.
Last of all, this guy has to have had an end game for his actions. What they are, I don't know but he is going to profit from his actions. Be it a job with CNN, MSNBC or whatever. Nobody who is willing to throw away an education from West Point would do so without a future plan..........
