Having watched a lot of baseball (and not much else programming) I have seen so many commercials where the white male is portrayed as dumb, bumbling or stupid while women, children and "people of color" are the wise, composed, and rational. No doubt this marketing approach has been tested and proved acceptable, but I still find myself irritated every time I see it. While boycotting products marketed this way may or may not be effective I have wondered what the impact would be if some creative politically incorrect film maker would produce parodies of these ads where the white male is portrayed in the absurd extreme that the Wall St. ad becomes distasteful by association. Perhaps these would receive great social media attention. They could be generic or brand specific although my preference would be brand specific.
As an example, I picture a drooling husband wearing protective head gear (maybe too extreme!) with his sophisticated wife shopping for a car where the smarter wife makes the "wise" decision after the drooling husband expresses his foolishness. The commercial transitions somehow where the husband is portrayed as a successful businessman that makes the car purchase possible while still appearing as a drooling fool.
It’s absolutely true! If a martian came down and watched the commercials he’d think the country is 75% black, who are all smart, head of companies and rich. Women are next on the totem pole and white males are the incompetent boobs.
This trend was kicked off by Rev. Jackson and Sharpton when they threatened the TV stations with boycotts and protests if they didn’t include more blacks in the ads.
As usual bitching and moaning paid off.
She looks at her phone for 2-seconds and finds the perfect car and makes a sarcastic comment. He says, under his breath, “I guess we'll do it your way”. She says, “I heard that.”
Tell the wife to “calm down” and not let her hormones get in the way.
Don’t underestimate car companies’ ad agency guile. Women make stupid decisions about cars. That is what the companies want. How to get that? Ridicule the male decision maker and let the women stumble into the pit. Its not about social politics. Its about selling a Chevy to a family that should be buying the Toyota.

Yeah...but women didn’t like it then and rightly so. Still it was a patronizing “Awww. darling, its ok...”
But the level of vitriol and hatred is something that never was shown as it is today against men.
Worse, in so many commercials, men and simply are absent from family scenes...only Mom and female kids.
I get angry about it alot...not for me but for my marginalized grandson.
Very accurate. The idiot is always the Whiter of the two, or the male-er of the two. Dark one always makes a fool of light one.
This is to boost the self-image of people whose self image consists of nothing - and needs to be built up from nothing by bashing other people.
Obviously Whitey and Dude don’t need any artificial inflating of their egos - they already know who they are and know they are just fine.
I bitch about that all the time; my husband (not-dumb white guy) is tired of hearing it.
I used to count female vs male, black vs white, etc. And not even the “who’s smarter” aspect all the time, but the quantities. The number of blacks was obviously more than double the whites. What is it... blacks are about 12% of our population?
Now I’ve been paying attention to basic complexion. Hardly any blondes with blue eyes — almost none. Very offensive for us in that category.
When we lived in Simi Valley, CA, the Walmart there had a fast food place — McDonalds, I think. Large posters of lovely joyous people lined the walls. EVERY person was dark-skin ethnic of some sort. I sent an email to the manager asking for some equality. I said if it weren’t for blue-eyed blond people there wouldn’t be a country, and we’d appreciate a little respect and acknowledgment.
The manager actually responded! She apologized! A month later... some new posters. I guess that was around 2005.
And on topic, I’d love to see a few commercials where the white-guy dad seriously kicked some kid/wife butt in the I.Q. department.

At least those commercials still have white males in them. Many don’t. Commercials also seem to show a ridiculously high proportion of mixed race people and white women in interracial relationships with blacks. It almost seems to be purposeful. /s

Allstate Commercials feature the black man and Mahem. Mahem is white and represents wrecklessness.
Every couple is mixed race. Why?
Rush Limbaugh called it the “Magic Negro”, where whites, men in particular, need a person of color to guide them.

Angie’s Boom Chick A Pop popcorn has a commercial with a very white mom with 3 black kiddos in an airport. Cause thats what you see everyday. /s
I get it, there are lots of mixed race couples now. Anybody else remember when a “mixed “ marriage was a Catholic and a Jew? That used to be scandalous!!!
