I recently smoked a Tri Tip which was so incredibly good that I smoked two more Tri Tips that same week. This video is of the third Tri Tip that I smoked.
One way I am losing weight is by preparing incredibly tasty low or no carb food such as this. Meanwhile I am able to avoid carb cravings via taking Crave Stop.
Tri Tips are very popular in the Santa Barbara area of California. It is from the lower triangular area of the cow below the sirloin, thus the name "Tri Tip." It is somewhere between a steak and roast beef in taste and texture. If you never had it before, I highly recommend it. However, if you do cook it up you should smoke it in order to fully appreciate its fantastic flavor.
I started out on May 27 at 320 pounds. At my first weigh-in on August 17, I weighed in at 289 pounds. At my second weigh-in on September 28, I registered 266 pounds.
So what will my next weight be? For that you have to wait until November 9. I hope to livecast the weigh in or you can watch it right there or later on YouTube. My immediate goal is to lose a total of 100 pounds so I can go on the Steve Kane Radio Show Cruise to the Caribbean next year. This year my wife refused to let me go because she worried that I was so fat that the shipboard food could kill me.
Good luck to you.
That high protein diet worked for me too, about a decade ago.
Overtime, my diet returned to normal and the weight all came back. Maybe I’ll try the protein diet again. It’s somewhat expensive, but not overwhelming.
I don’t have access to a grill, so I will likely sear in a skillet, then either roast in the oven at 325’ for a few hours, or slow boil on top of the stove. Tenderness with beef can be a struggle, a guessing game. Pork is much easier to make tender than beef. I just take a whole spare rib on a pan, gift wrap in foil, bake at 225’ for three hours and put BBQ sauce on it. Delicious, but I don’t know if the fat content will be counter productive.
East coast is a tri tip desert. The butcher looks at you and draws a blank. Miss them.
Good luck, that’s awesome. Scarsdale diet worked for me.

The more complete recipe?
My wife is from Santa Barbara and her family (now in Sacramento area) always has tri-tips at family gatherings. Love them smoked and cooked very slow.
Pssst! I specialize in getting such things on the cheap so perhaps I will have a future video on that subject. For example, I just stocked up on Jumbo eggs from Walmart because they were on sale for only 70 cents per dozen. A week earlier they were $1.63 but I knew to wait for the stock up price.
That's why I grabbed them when they were recently on sale at $4.99/lb at Aldi's.
No such thing in my area of TX. We’re having leftover skirt steak with salad tonight. It was $3.99 the other day but with about $5 of free items with the purchase of each package of meat so the price was right.
Our grill finally rusted through.
Tri Tips were/are very popular with the Chumash Indians of that region and later settlers picked up on it. That's why Tri Tips are very popular in Santa Barbara. If you go to picnic areas there on weekends, at least half the folks are barbecuing Tri Tips.
Aldi’s. Good to know. Will be checking them out.
I only buy cage free eggs
I once asked a cashier at Walmart if I could buy cheaper eggs if they came from tied-down chickens.
Sounds disgusting. I would have eaten them instead.
Presumably we are discussing Santa Maria BBQ:
(tri-tips are traditional but the goodness can and has been extended to other cuts too...)

I love grilling and smoking meat and so did my coworkers when I was working at the fire department. So they were always going on “protein diets”. They usually lost some weight to begin with, but every single one of them gained it all back and more within a period of time. The ones who did this repeatedly developed sometimes severe health problems.
I had one coworker who was an amazing meat chef. His weight kept boomeranging up and down. He eventually ballooned up to over 400 pounds and had to be reassigned to communications. He then developed type 2 diabetes and other health problems and had to retire.
The attractive idea with “protein diets” seems to be that it is a way to eat more calories than your body needs without gaining weight. Despite the massive amount of nutritional misinformation that people choose to believe there are no shortcuts which are healthy in the long run.
In the long run if you want to lose weight there is no substitute for eating less calories than your body burns. It is difficult to burn enough extra calories with exercise alone to lose much weight especially considering most of us reward ourselves with some sort of snack after a workout.
Changing habits that cause one to make unhealthy and excessive food choices is usually the most effective way to lose weight. Most of us were taught to clean up everything on our plates when we were growing up. One thing that you can do if you are fond of eating out is to only eat half of what you are served and put the rest in a doggie bag.
Good advice. Sometimes, the best advice is not really a surprise at all.
You make it look so easy. We have a Weber gas grill...now I’m gonna have to get the charcoal grill.
Sirloin tip (or triangle)
It doesnt have to be high protein; it just has to be low carb. Protein really needs to be adequate to your life, more working out and muscle building needs more protein. Protein is the one kind of food that really builds us. Never eat without at least some protein in that meal or snack.
And low carb is not only about losing weight. Low carb is also about proper weight distribution. Your scale can say good things but your body could show fat distribution you dont like. Protein and healthy fat, plus exercise, and enough carbs to feed your gut bugs and give you some pleasure, and your same weight can redistribute itself in good ways. So low carb should be for life, not just for the period of weight loss. Tweak it til you dont crave any more carbs than you normally get.
