The mystery of Oumuamua, the first interstellar object ever spotted in our solar system, has taken a new, unexpected twist and it's from someone you might not expect NASA. ..."
Because of the varying degrees of brightness emanating from Oumuamua's surface, NASA suggests it is "highly elongated and probably less than half a mile (2,600 feet, or 800 meters) in its longest dimension."
The intrigue of what Oumuamua is or isn't has picked up a considerably over the past few weeks, especially as some researchers have theorized that it could be an object from an extraterrestrial civilization.
A study from the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics says the object could be "a lightsail of artificial origin" sent from another civilization.
"Considering an artificial origin, one possibility is that Oumuamua is a lightsail, floating in interstellar space as a debris from an advanced technological equipment," researchers Shmuel Bialy and Abraham Loeb wrote in a paper.
Weryk called that idea preposterous and just "wild speculation," though he did note that the speed of the object was unusual.
"There's a maximum speed that you can be traveling to be bound gravitationally by the sun," Weryk told Canadian outlet CBC in an interview. "When we first saw this object, it was traveling faster than that, so we know for a fact that it's from outside our solar system. We decided that it was a comet that had a bit of outgassing that wasn't visible from the ground, which is why it didn't appear to be a comet." ..."

It’s a rock.
Ockums razor: it’s a rock
Whatever it was, it took one hell of the beating in the war!
—
Its an artist concept of what it might look like - not what it actually looks like.
Everyone is so fond of Fermi’s conjecture:
Question): If there is life on other worlds where is it?
Answer: Hiding from predators.
Perhaps the probe (and the other similar one no one talks about) that just passed thru our system was sent in search of quarry ...
My hypothesis is it is leading debris from a planet that was near a supernova. If my hypothesis is correct, then depending on how far away the supernova was the expected radial distribution pattern would tell us if we could expect to see more.
Next steps would be to:
1) Determine which supernova in the past were closest to earth.
2) Calculate an origin of the item based on speed/trajectory prior to entering our system and look for past super-nova in that direction.
I’m sure there is some astrophysicist doing just that currently.
Thanks ETL.

Occam’s Razor - not necessarily true - sometimes the more complex answer is closer to the truth, given the billions of billions of galaxies in the observed Universe - not to mention the 300,000,000 stars in our galaxy alone.
Rocks do not adopt a perfect course to complete a perfect slingshot maneuver (to pick up speed to its next destination), passing unscathed through the solar system and around the sun except by amazing coincidence ... if you believe in them.
Im sure there is some astrophysicist doing just that currently.
He was, but unfortunately, life caught up to him and he beat himself to death ... :)
More Fake News from Fox... I guess all comets with orbital eccentricities greater than 1 aren't interstellar objects. Guess alot of orbital mechanics textbooks will have to be re-written.
Prolly whats left of that Tesla Motor Car Elon Musk fired at the sun a few months back....regurgitated back from whence it came!!
Not fake news - old news. yes. with some added information.
The object was spotted long before the rocket was even ready to launch.
Harvard “should” be embarrassed having their name plastered on this nonsense.
Thank you.
Obama in space?
Lemme know if the number 3.1415 is engraved on its side....
All they need to prove it is more money.
What a 4-pack that is!
Cool - only needed five posts to get an Arthur C. Clark reference.
