The back ups and the sax man stole the show. Lead singer’s voice is awful.

She was pretty burned-out by then. Phil Spector was beyond demanding, and a lowlife, criminal scumbag.

Love it, the original always supersedes everything after.

I saw an interview with her years ago. She did short bit of a cappella. Great voice.

This song always makes me think of the opening scene of Dirty Dancing.

Having said that, the original is better.

Reminds me of cruising the drag on Main St Hackensack in 64’/ 65’ with my gal by my side in my 64’ Bonneville convertable. Great memories.

Dennis, is that you?
I read somewhere that this was, for a time, Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys favorite song. His daughter said he would play it more than a hundred times a day, and considered it perfect, etc. I hope he wore headphones.

Well, that sent me on an enjoyable five hour detour on youtube.

Hal Blaine made that song on drums in the original.

Phil Spector fun fact...
PS had many “gofers” who helped him including one who got “paid” in free use of the studio.
That gofer was a young Sonny Bono and used the free studio time to record his hit, “I Got You Babe” with some freak named Cher.
Sonny also co-wrote “Needles & Pins” that became a hit for The Searchers.

Weird tie in.
Needles and Pins was redone by the Ramones, who also had a LP produced by PS.
Ronnie really stole the spotlight in that Eddie Money song "Take me home tonight".
