Warning over vegan diets and brain health nutrient deficiency
Digital Journal ^ | September 5, 2019 | Tim Sandle

Subheading: The recommendation that people move to plant-based diets carries the risk of worsening a brain health nutrient deficiency due to low dietary levels of choline, warns a leading nutritionist. This has been challenged by other experts.

The concern has been raised by Dr Emma Derbyshire, of Nutritional Insight, a consultancy specializing in nutrition and biomedical science, who has written a paper published in the British Medical Journal. Her research focuses on the British population.

Dr. Derbyshire is concerned about choline levels. Choline is a water-soluble vitamin-like essential nutrient, important for brain health, particularly during fetal development. The nutrient also influences liver function, and shortfalls can be connected to irregularities in blood fat metabolism plus excess free radical cellular damage, according to Dr Derbyshire. She sets out that a diet that includes beef, eggs, dairy products, fish, and chicken provides sufficient choline levels, although choline is also found in nuts, beans, and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli.

Dr. Derbyshire states: "If choline is not obtained in the levels needed from dietary sources per se then supplementation strategies will be required, especially in relation to key stages of the life cycle, such as pregnancy, when choline intakes are critical to infant development."

A doctor that I met recently suggested a web site: Forks Over Knives. I checked it out. It is strictly vegetarian—no eggs, even. No dairy. Then I saw some, maybe famous people. Then I saw Moochelle riding a stationary bike...that did it for me.

Choline is a water-soluble vitamin-like essential nutrient. It is a constituent of lecithin, which is present in many plants and animal organs. The term cholines refers to the class of quaternary ammonium salts containing the N,N,N-trimethylethanolammonium cation.

I’m 70, in good shape in all my blood work. I eat 4 eggs for breakfast with bacon and cheese. Cheese burgers for lunch.

I poured concrete today, worked in the garden a while and later did chores. I challenge any vegan to keep up with me.

“Brains need protein, the kind found in meat.”

Can you please post a peer reviewed medical study supporting that crazy claim?

Been mostly vegan for four years and still smart enough to make this post at 75 YO.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
1 Timothy 4:1-3.

Forbidding to eat meat and marry (soon to come because we are in the end times) are satanic doctrines.

The first record of killing an animal was in Genesis 3:21.

To Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

GOD HIMSELF was the first one to have an animal killed for the sake of fallen man. The type is of Christ by whose blood we are redeemed. Refusing to eat met is a self-righteous doctrine which denies man's fall, God's Word, and the redemption Christ offers.

Fact, and even more important the fat. Red meat has the best combination of chemistry for brain health. Off to bed but I will get it for you in the morning, more reality than you are going to like. We are designed to eat meat, there is even another ape species which cannot even ovulate to reproduce without going on a meat binge first to activate it. Apes and monkeys actually eat much more meat than the official narrative allows us to hear.

Stupidest diet ever. People with G6PD and others of certain ethnicities virtually cannot be vegetarians. But it wiil not stop leftist fascists thugs in Universities from trying to mandate a genocide by meat prohibition

Funny how most Vegans are liberals and preach diversity, except when it comes to the food they eat.

Also don’t forget that with Israel, God instituted animal sacrifice for sins as a foreshadowing of Christ’s perfect sacrifice on the cross.

The Passover, for instance - a foreshadowing of Christ’s death on the cross - has each family kill and eat a lamb, Christ being the Lamb of God. In so doing and putting the blood of the lamb on the posts and lentils of the door - a picture of Christ and his blood spilled on the cross - death passed over them as it does believers today.

So again, forbidding to kill an animal and eat its meat is a doctrine straight from the pit of hell because it is self-righteous and denies the need for redemption by the spilled blood of Christ, the Lamb of God.

In this great nation, nobody should have any problem with people eating what they want to eat (with the exception of love animals).

I empathize with you insofar as Mrs DoodleBob and I homeschool, and because of that we are often considered freaks or worse. I suspect since most people love their burgers and chicken, and since many vegans and/or vegetarians who turn up in the news are often way out there, they slime ALL people who eschews animal protein.

Thank you for posting. As Frank Zappa said, do whatever you want to do as long as it doesn't cause a murder.

There are plenty of vegans etc on FR and they aren't the pushy lot...they are not the evangelizing crew, like this:

Hi JudgemAll, your post was fascinating. I’d like to learn more about that type of breakdown for types of diets by ethnicity, makes total sense. I knew that Asians tend to be more lactose intolerant than Westerners. I’ve seen that continental Indians can thrive on a vegan diet where Westerners do not. any recommended reading? Anything web based? Cheers!

It is so hard to find the optimum values of everything we consume for the best outcome of good health and long life. Perhaps the best advice is the age-old admonition “Everything in Moderation.”
