Archaeologists in Egypt have uncovered the tomb of Batah-M-Woya, who was chief treasurer in the time of King Ramses II.

The tomb is located in Saqqara, a huge necropolis south of Cairo, according to a statement from Egypt's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities published Saturday.

Saqqara has been the site of a string of astonishing finds in recent years, and this latest discovery is the work of a team of archaeologists from Cairo University.

In addition to the tomb of the former treasurer, the team also uncovered the tombs of a number of dignitaries, including a military leader called Hor Mohib.

Around 20 miles south of Cairo, the vast burial ground of Saqqara once served the royal capital of Memphis, and the site is also home to Egypt's oldest surviving pyramid.

In January, authorities announced the discovery of a cache of ancient burial shafts cotaining hundreds of wooden coffins.

That’s Pontius, pron. “Punches”. Of course, he’s been flagged by the TSA and the airlines...

Everyone else in Egypt was Ramses’ gardeners, and had to pay up with their produce, then get food rationed out from the state. Luckily, ancient Egypt didn’t have slaves...

Meh.

Now earlier today I was posting about critical race theory and somehow autocorrect changed that to “Titicaca” race theory.

Which was actually quite funny and, since I could edit posts on that forum, saw me post the Lake Titicaca Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I0Hee533Iw

I was assigned to the UN Truce Supervisors in the Sinai from 1988-9 and lived in Heliopolis for that year. Spent every minute of it learning and seeing as much as I could. My favorite spot was Medinet Habu in Luxor. All of the temple carvings still had their original vivid colors and very few tourists managed to find it.

The Sinai still had vast fields of war wreckage from '56 and '67 and '73 as well as Roman and Egyptian ruins.

I know that were supposed to be patrolling to prevent future fighting - but the dang place was too fascinating!

We met Roger Moore (007) while having dinner on a patio restaurant on the Nile. That was fun.

Creepy. Since she obviously escaped, I wonder who the mummy in the tomb is.

Great new doc called “Patterns of Evidence: Exodus” arguing that there is abundant evidence for the Hebrew period in Egypt from free people to slaves to the exodus to the conquest-—only not in Rameses II’s time, but 400 years later. All the evidence is there: archaeologists are looking in the wrong place.

(Cue “Raiders of the Lost Ark”: “They’re digging in the wrong place.”)
