That’s nice, and Judge sounds like an very admirable young man, but nobody’s paying attention.
Baseball hasn't recovered from the strike in 1994. The numbers keep dropping, the steroid scandal didn't save them, and going woke was just an attempt to get a bounce out of a dead cat.
The owners showed their anti-American beliefs by supporting wokeness and Communist organizations such as Black Lives MatterTM. The should be charged for illegal campaign contributions-in-kind for running free, multi-hour commercials for the Democrats.
Baseball teams lose more and more frequently to one opponent they can't beat - Viewer Apathy.
Forget about some stick swinger beating a record; people wouldn't care if he was found dead in a hotel room with cocaine and hookers or decided to "transition" into a cat or a tree.
Based on the content of the article, he is a professional baseball player that is adept at hitting "home runs".
Baseball still # 1 in Japan !
Snooze. Major League Wokeball.
Probably more Japanese know about how Shohei Ohtani is rewriting the record book than American. MLB has no concept of self promotion.
Not only may he surpass Babe Ruth's record for home runs in 154 games, he may set the all time single-season mark for a Yankee, if he passes Maris' 61 home runs by the end of the season.
Versatile guy.
Baseball hasn’t recovered from the strike in 1994.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For me, it was the 1981 strike... haven’t watched a ball game since.
The accountants are, his contract is up this year.
Ya think?!
RE: Aaron Judge
Pardon my ignorance.... but...
I thought the great and recently departed Hank Aaron already surpassed Babe Ruth’s home run record.
His 755 career home runs broke the long-standing MLB record set by Babe Ruth and stood as the most for 33 years; Aaron still holds many other MLB batting records.
Right
The entire nation was captivated. This was way before internet and unless you were physically at the game, listening on the radio or watching the game on TV, there was no way to find out how he did until the 11PM local news. Most of the games at the time were only available on TV locally, the only national broadcasts was "Monday Night Baseball" (with Howard Cosell) or some other network "Game of the Week" on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
The news wires however (like AP or UPI) would send the results of each Pete Rose at bat on the wires but only the media had access to those and it involved having some sort of teletype machine on hand to print the wires out.
So a lot of radio music stations would announce the results of a Pete Rose at bat between songs.
For example, "Just What I Needed" by the Cars would finish playing the the DJ would exclaim "PETE ROSE JUST SINGLED IN THE 4TH INNING AND HIS HITTING STREAK IS ALIVE AT 38 GAMES". Then the DJ would launch into "Sultans Of Swing" by Dire Straits or some other song that would tie in somehow to Pete Rose or baseball in general.
"Boys Of Summer" by Don Henley would not get released until some years later - I think that was 1984.
There are more important things to focus on than entertainment. Also consider we have so many more entertainment options today vying for a limited amount of personal time.
These are records based on a full season. There are no records kept for HR's hit in 151 games. Judge has 19 more games to reach 154 games and 27 more games to reach 162 games. Those are the two I would say are of interest.
That is the year I quit following it.
He is a Hollywood producer. I think he did Beavis and Butt Head, King of the Hill, and had a hand in the Office.
Aaron Judge is a ball player.
He is not going to break the record of 60 in 151 games.
