Americans are in love with sketchy, unregulated supplements — here are 6 that actually work
New York Post ^ | Oct. 3, 2023 | Marc Lallanilla

Americans may love to eat junk, but we’re nearly as passionate about doing penance, with more than half of us scarfing down dietary supplements on a regular basis.

From herbal remedies to energy boosters, vitamins and weight-loss pills, supplements form a massive global industry — one that’s expected to reach $200 billion in value by 2025, according to the AMA Journal of Ethics.

Trouble is, it’s a largely “Wild West” scene — and that’s by design, believe it or not. The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 limits the ability of the Food and Drug Administration to regulate products marketed as dietary supplements.

By hobbling the FDA, manufacturers are able to sell their modern-day potions and miracle cures without any evidence of their potency, safety or effectiveness.

No matter what one watches on the conservative tv shows these days then they are all loaded with people trying to sell herbs and whatever. From infowars to Ted Nugent to Lindell. On and on. Creepy.

This article is dripping with unintentional irony.

They can’t hold a candle to the frequency of Big Pharma’s ads.

I've seen how the FDA has slow walked drug approvals over the years which has resulted in needless suffering and deaths that could have been prevented. We all saw the FDA's fiasco with Covid and the vaccines while actively trying to prevent people from accessing other treatments (monoclonal antibodies, Ivermectin, HCQ, etc.) and pushing dangerous drugs like remdesivir. Currently they're trying to protect drugmakers profits by shutting down compounding pharmacies that are making affordable compounds of weight loss drugs like semaglutide and tirzepatide that the makers are charging over $1000 a month for, which makes them unaffordable for the vast majority of Americans.

I do not trust the FDA to be acting in our best interests, they're in the pockets of big pharma and big agriculture. I'd prefer the FDA be kept at arms length and the less control they have the better. They're not out to help us, they're out to protect the profits of giant corporate interests.

add Creatine Monohydrate to that list..

one of the few fitness-oriented supplements that actually works. Creatine also has significant cognitive benefits.

I’ve been weight lifting 25+ years... I have gone on and off of it, and there’s a noticeable difference in stamina and recovery when I’m on it. Another benefit is it draws a little extra water in your muscles and so if you’re not a fat body, you’ll look little more ripped. One of the most tested supplements in the world... totally safe.

After the whole Covid and vax debacle, we should trust the FDA to regulate supplements to keep us *safe*?

The only thing FDA regulation would mean would be to regulate them into uselessness, just like OTC meds of older prescriptions.

Hey Glenn Beck promotes Relief Factor. I like his show. A fusion of entertainment and enlightenment; The Glenn Beck Program. On Mercury Radio.

A couple we’ve found to work well are fenugreek for colds and congestion. Works like guaifenesin without the side effects, and smells a whole lot nicer (Like maple syrup).

And melatonin. I tiny amount of that puts me in La-La-land.

Agree. I’d also add that whether lifting weights or not, everyone over 40 should be on a protein supplement. The more active you are the more important it is.

When did someone selling something become “creepy”? Lindell sells products that people really like.

You must be the original snowflake.
