Cruz: 2012 Disclosure Should Have Noted Goldman Sachs Loan
The Texas Tribune ^ | 1/13/16 | Patrick Svitek

DORCHESTER, S.C. - Responding to a report that said he did not disclose a loan from his wife's employer during his 2012 U.S. Senate campaign, Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz called the issue a "technical and inadvertent filing error" that he will fix if necessary.

He lives in the real world. Did you read his detailed post about margin loans and how they work. This whole thing is a tempest in a teapot and will not amount to a hill of beans.

Another day, another phony attack on Cruz- They keep trying to make something out of nothing.

Cruz is a good, decent person.

He's been fighting the GOPe for a long time.

We wouldn't even know about the Washington Cartel if it wasn't for Cruz.

He (Cruz) is sort of like The Karate Kid taking on the elitist snobs, who then resort to using every dirty underhanded trick in trying to knock him out.

I will keep praying that he will be our next president, and that people will see clearly who the best person is to lead our nation.

I guess we can see why we keep losing the Nation to the Left - no issue too small to invalidate one of ours and no evil too great on the other side to make us want to oust them...

And no cause worthy of our support when we can rely on others and then complain that they didn't do their part to make us happy...

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate (even if he's "rich enough to do it on his own") as the next President.
I donate to the candidate I support and you should too, else, your "support" really doesn't have any meaning.

It's even worse if you use FR and don't donate. If you are one of those who feel it's OK to use FR daily w/o helping pay to keep the lights on, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches because, functionally, you are no different than any other who enjoys the fruits of others' work for your own benefit. Also, don't be surprised if others decide that your opinions are as worthless as your non-donations - hypocrites aren't worth listening to.

PS - If you are one of those unlucky few who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

Donate to FR

I agree with your assessment. Further I’m so very disappointed in FR that it has turned into a HUGE moderate website where someone that clearly supported democrats and damn near everyone of their policies, and still does, is the candidate of choice. Trump is NOT conservative. What is going on with Free Republic?

Good post. I’m reposting this here so that people understand this better. This IS a non-story for the following reasons:

1. The loan was essentially a loan to himself. It was based on an investment account he and his wife had at GS. Why there? Because for compliance reasons it’s very difficult to have an account anywhere other than where you work

2. Anyone can get this loan because you are essentially loaning yourself your own money. If you have a small CD at a bank, go ask if they can loan you money based on the CD. They will do that. Why? because the money is safe for them.. it’s “your” money they are loaning.

3. Where did the NYTimes get this big news? From Cruz’s own public filings.

https://twitter.com/kerpen/status/687461435522285568

this has all been publicly disclosed in multiple ways. There was no coverup, no secrecy.

4. As he was loaning himself money, he was essentially putting at risk somewhere around a 1/3 of he and his wife’s life savings.

there is a longer response by Cruz here.

https://twitter.com/PatrickSvitek/status/687463737431842816

I thought it was a good thing for candidates to spend their own money trying to do the right thing even when they were an underdog in the race?

There was another thread posted earlier, genius.

It’s best to know what you’re talking about before you start yapping. Hasn’t stopped you so far, though.

"This Trump supporter is YAWNING .... the smell of bullsh*t is in the air. New York Times, those three words pretty much say everything one needs to know."

Thank you and congratulations. Unlike many, supporting Trump has evidently not canceled out your ability to reason.

"Exactly!

It's the Trump supporters trying to make an issue of this that have no shame."

They've gone so far left in order to support their liberal Democrat that they're openly behaving like leftists now.

Last night Levin said it would be interesting to watch tonight's debate and see if any of the candidates would try to come at Cruz with this leftwing attack. He also said that one of the campaigns planted the story.

Wonder which one?

Well, I’ve seen the excuse that Trump supporters are rude but I haven’t seen a lit of it nor have done it, so it doesn’t make it right. But I have had vicious insults hurled at me, when I didn’t start it. I admit to responding in kind though ;( Now I stay off of Cruz threads unless I see something interesting or especially obnoxious. The THIRD post on this one bashing Trump supporters before one even showed up drew me in, LOL! That was just nuts!

I think you’re right-some are doing the divide and conquer thing. And we’re letting it happen, foolishly.

Not at all. I don’t begrudge Cruz his loan from GS, and yes, maybe he did forget to mention it in his financial disclosure. He is only human, too. It’s this whole mantra that he is some kind of Conservative Christian Outsider who will save the day. He and Heidi are anointed ones. No one ascends to the office of POTUS unless they are anointed by the PTB, and that includes the Oligarchs at GS as well. 2016 is just a protest vote in my opinion. The die is cast - no one in Govt. can or will save America. That is up to We the People, and most don’t have a clue.

I appreciate the Reply.

Just to set the record straight, while I am a Cruz Supporter first, Trump is my one and only second choice.

None of the others, including Rubio (who’s Parents were not American Citizen’s when he was Born and is disqualified from attaining the Presidency anyway, same as Jindal) is on my Radar.

To address your question about Trump and his support here, the only People to “blame” are the powerbrokers in the Republican Party. They screwed the Pooch when they became quasi Democrats and left Conservatives like the People who Post on Free Republic in the dust.

Trump is not a Conservative by a long shot, but he is promoting many Conservative Policies that 75% of the Republican Field (if not more) have not.

His History is out there for all to see, but it isn’t a History of being Elected to Political Office and screwing his Supporters. The Republicans own that one, not Trump.

Above all he is a fighter that actually wants to Represent the People. What does he gain by doing what he is doing? Nothing as far as I can see.

He has a Life that most of us would envy, at age 69 he certainly doesn’t need the crap that goes along with running for Office. There is no upside for him except wanting to accomplish something for the Country IMHO. He can’t have any less success than those so called Conservatives we all supported in past Elections.

Does anyone Posting here feel like anything they believe in has been promoted by our so called Conservative Representatives in D.C.? I certainly don’t.

All those so called Conservatives that we put in Office have done nothing for the cause. Listening to the former Tea Party Babe Nikki Haley provided an example of what the reality of the situation is.

She went after Trump with the Blessings of her GOPe Masters instead of attacking Lord Obama and his damaging Policies. Do people actually think she wrote that so called “response” herself, really? What a hit job, unreal.

BTW - Mrs. (super duper Apolitical) K.C. is for Trump 100%, just like the rest of her Family. None of them were influenced by my promoting Cruz. I even have coworkers who will gladly Vote for Trump, but never for Cruz, that guy who shut down the Government. No matter how I try to explain the truth of the Shutdown doesn’t matter.

That is what Cruz will have to contend with in the General. I am afraid he will not have the broad base of appeal that Trump is currently experiencing. We still have over ten Months to go, so who knows what will happen? Not me. #;^)

And Levin is a Cruz hack. Who cares what he says about anything?

He's also a constitutionalist, and is well worth listening to on that score alone.

There is/was only One who is/was perfect; He died, rose from the dead, left and promised to return. But not for this election.

Did you both, along with your army of lawyers and accountants, "forget" to include a million dollar loan on an official US government document?

If so, then, yes.

The loan was disclosed. On a federal form. And it was made public. Consequently, you can safely assume that it wasn't a "secret".

Nor was it a 'million dollar loan'. It was a $500K loan against a $million in assets.

However, I very much doubt you're interested in the facts of the matter.

Not everywhere it belonged. Get a grip.

You're the one that needs to get a grip.

The oversight wasn't serious. Cruz's loan to his campaign was disclosed on the proper FEC form. The missing element, the margin loan to him, was disclosed on the Senate form and made public.

It was a nothing deal, blown out of proportion by the New York Times and Texas Tribune -- a couple of liberal propaganda rags.

Had your candidate been accused of a similar oversight, you'd be swatting at flies, too -- but unworried as to consequences. Because there won't be any.
