I'm glad that Pelosi added that second thought. I'd hate to think that there is "an unfortunate lack of recognition of" the contributions of Capitol law enforcement within Congress.

true...we toured the senate floor while visiting washington DC and my husband just touched his camera and "they" were all over us...warning us to not take a pic...God forbid my husband were to do what McKinney did...
But Nancy, what if this had been a Republican? Would it still not be a "big deal"? Why do I doubt it?
I heard on CBS radio that McKinney admitted that she was not wearing her Congressional ID badge, but said the cop should have recognized her anyway.
Delusions of grandeur?
FREE THE TAPES!
I wanna know just who hired this policeman? Karl Rove?
Just did a quick Google and found this. Don't know for sure but it looks like it might cover this.

Bobby KKK Byrd had a traffic accident in suburban Virginia and pulled that Bull Sheet of the cops. And he meant it the racist Democrat bastard.
Amen. I am so thoroughly sick of Special Rules For Special People when it comes to Congress that I could puke. And I mean both Republican and Democrat - these are charged with the consideration of legislation that affects our lives which they do not bother to read before voting on and that does not apply to their Highnesses themselves. Their retirement plans would make an Ottoman Sultan blush. And the idea that they don't have to submit their royal personages to the indignity of a metal detector makes my blood boil.
My guess is that nothing whatever will happen to Psycho Cindy. She's Special People.
I saw daddy mckinney say "it was no big deal". I wonder if he would say the same if the guard had punched his little girl--nah--I guess THAT would have been a hate crime.
Check the link I listed in #28. I think it's for real.
i try not to cuss on here, but it's getting harder and harder as i get older.
this is the stupidest @#$%^ in congress.
she is an embarrassment to representative government in general, not just the united states.
Don't believe that gives the beeyoch immunity from prosecution for assault, though.
"They [Senators and Representatives] shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same..."
I think striking a police officer would count as 'breach of the peace.' At least for us little folks it would.
Article I Section 6.
The Senators and Representatives shall receive a compensation for their services, to be ascertained by law, and paid out of the treasury of the United States. They shall in all cases, except treason, felony and breach of the peace, be privileged from arrest during their attendance at the session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any speech or debate in either House, they shall not be questioned in any other place.
Is it a breach of the peace?
GMTA. Got you by 4 seconds.
You're correct. When they are travelling to and from or during official duties. Doesn't mean they can't be charged, just not arrested at that time.
"You and I would be in cuffs in an instant. What gives? Is she above the law?"
Yes, in a way. Congressmen are not subject to search. If she is a victim of racial bias as she claims, then I wished they would root it out of the capitol police; that is inexcusable behavior. However, if she is just being a cry baby as an excuse for being rude, then she should be censored.
Bottome line is that she should have kept her composure. If the police were acting improperly then she would look more innocent. Not to mention that she could be the one filling charges. However, she cannot strike a uniformed officer because she didn't like him touching her. Her committing assault cannot be justified by being "touched."
