Seven years ago George bush and the republicans gave a tax cut to the wealthy. We had a recesion and as far as Im concerned we never recovered. I was working as a telemarketeer and my husband was at an assembly plant. In 2001 my husband was laid off after his job was outsourced. Then I lost my job too. My husband now works at Target and I held a job at Burger King. A week ago my job was terminated after buisness wasn't so well. Now were in another recession and Bush wants yet another tax cut? If cutting taxes didn't work before what does he thinks going to happen? I say raise them back up and give tax breaks to the poor and only the poor! We need it more after our jobs went away!
How convenient.
But since you asked, the poor don’t pay taxes.
Yay! I’m in before the zot! I feel so special!
Seems like we’re going to get some time to educate you, hearts.
I thought Ron Paul was a kook, until I actually read his position papers. Now I'm not so sure
A guy who says the reason his newsletter had racist articles in it is because he didn't read the thing for five years is either:
1. A racist liar and not at all qualified to be President
2. Not a racst, but abyssmally incompetent and not at all qualified to be President
Seven years ago George bush and the republicans gave a tax cut to the wealthy.
Those tax cuts were across the board cuts, so everyone paying taxes got a tax cut, whether they were rich or middle class. Bush has also signed bills ensuring that those who get government credits (such as the Earned Income Credit) get increases, so even the non-taxpaying poor have larger tax refunds on his watch. Bush also eliminated the marriage penalty...do you think anyone, rich or poor, should have to pay higher taxes because they got married?
We had a recesion and as far as Im concerned we never recovered.
Yes, that's as far as you're concerned. Some people, for reasons of their own choosing, or unavoidable circumstances, are having tough economic times long after the rest of us are OK. That's not the President's fault; it's not his job to run your life for you or protect you from all possible bad luck.
I was working as a telemarketeer and my husband was at an assembly plant. In 2001 my husband was laid off after his job was outsourced. Then I lost my job too. My husband now works at Target and I held a job at Burger King.
Based on the number of former factory workers I went to Community College with, I have to wonder if there's more to this story. A number of guys got cut from our local tire factory, not because their jobs were outsourced, but because the company was struggling to compete against tires made in China. Some of them moved on to other jobs, but a large number were able to access job training funds and go to school. Maybe your state doesn't have that, but it still makes me wonder.
Now, three more things:
1. Your hubby lost his job in 2001? Sounds like a Clinton-era problem, Bush had only just gotten into office. The slowdown began in the second half of 2000.
2. A second reason your hubbby's job loss (and career at Target) isn't Bush's fault is that we've had 52 straight months of job growth as of December. It's not like jobs are really leaving the country.
3. If you want to blame somebody for the loss of your telemarketing job, blame the entire country, not Bush. Telemarketing is a terrible sales method, and when Americans got tired of being poked with a stick, they passed laws making it nearly impossible for companies to do it. Note that Bush's tax cuts aren't in that equation.
A week ago my job was terminated after buisness wasn't so well.
This may be a source of your problem: Your grammar sounds like something that was rejected by the writers of Green Acres. It's probably holding you back. People judge you by the way you speak. A lot!
Now were in another recession
No, we aren't. A recession is when you have thee economy shrink for six months or more, The economy grew last quarter and will probably do the same this quarter. After that, I don't know, but we're trying to stave off recession now, so save your complaints until there is one.
and Bush wants yet another tax cut? If cutting taxes didn't work before what does he thinks going to happen?
1. It's a rebate, not a cut.
2. Tax cuts increase economic activity. That is a fact. It happened when Kennedy cut taxes, when Reagan cut taxes and when Bush cut taxes. When his Dad raised taxes, we got a recession.
I say raise them back up and give tax breaks to the poor and only the poor! We need it more after our jobs went away!
The poor don't pay taxes in America anymore. Seriously, when's the last time you had to write Uncle Sam a check on April 15th, or even just didn't get a refund? And, as I pointed out, there's been 52 straight months of job growth so far. There aren't any masses of poor out there losing their jobs.
As Barack Obama said, the economic policies of Bush and the republicans have never worked and aren't going t0 work so just whats the point of cutting taxes if it aint going to make jobs for us or bring back our jobs?
Barack Obama is either lying or knows about as much about economics as you know about brain surgery.
As chrisser said in one of the first few posts, even if you're telling the truth, you were in a dead-end entry-level job and you decided that there was no reason for you to shoot any higher, and now you're blaming it on government so you don't have to blame yourself. I was a telemarketing supervisor, and there were two kinds of people working there: People who saw it as the first rung on the ladder, and people who are probably still complaining that they have a sucky job years later. One of the guys I worked with at that telemarketing company owns his own car dealership now, because he wasn't interested in settling for low wages or in blaming George Bush for his problems.
Living in a free country means you, not the President, are in control of your life.
I am amazed that you haven’t been zotted yet. Vanity post on the day you signed up and only silence since.
I’m thinking it’s a bit of sadism on the part of the mods, letting us use this poster as sort of a cyber-pinata until we tire of the little troll.
Yeah, you’re right. Low taxes are bad, because people only spend the extra money on themselves...instead of giving it to government to waste er I mean spend. How about we immediately try a full-fledged socialist state on the order of successful ones...like North Korea. Hey, socialist paradise here we come. Thanks for the laugh.
Nah, Admin Moderator's been using the zot-o-matic to carmelize a batch of creme brule. As soon as he brings it back, we'll carmelize the troll.
kitties still playing with troll toy....
IBT(Eventual)Z!
Stick around, read with an open mind, and you will learn a lot around here.
Yep. In fact, I'm going to make a prediction: If the economy tanks, but the GOP nominates Romney or Giuliani and they win, the recession will end shortly after election Day, because the business community will know that there's a strong chance the tax cuts will be made permanent when they come up for review in 2010.
You coldhearted capitalist pig!
Gosh, another stupid troll during the election season. What a novelty.
You’re just laying there, can you at least twitch some?
Actually, that part of her story may be true. The Burger King a few blocks from me actually closed for lack of business. Of course, it may have had something to do with the staff being so rude and incompetent that I'd drive an extra ten minutes to get to the BK on the other side of town. There's a new video store going up on that lot now...the economy keeps on chuggin'.
It was Friday night, and the Mods were playing "Bob" to honor the memory of Suzanne Pleshette. Zotting while drunk can be hugh and series, so they stayed their mighty hands.
For now.
Post of the thread!
That would be rather amusing, just like the fact that the troll still has not been put of its misery yet.
