The National Rifle Association has filed a federal lawsuit against the state of Florida for infringing upon the Second Amendment rights of thousands of its citizens.
Florida state passed a new gun control bill on Wednesday in response to the horrific mass shooting in Parkland, The law bans the sales of firearms to adults between the ages of 18-21, among other actions such as banning bump stocks and requiring a waiting period when purchasing guns. FL. Gov. Rick Scott signed the bill into law earlier today.
But, in a complaint filed Friday, the pro-Second Amendment organization said the government was violating the rights of thousands of its citizens with the measure.

If you can raise the age of firearm purchase to 21, what’s to stop them from raising it to 99? Or 256?
I wonder at what age I have access to my 4th Amendment Right?
Never. Oh yeah.
Rick Scott is an effing, total disgrace. Still hasn't removed the Sheriff and nobody is discussing the total breakdown at the local, state, and federal levels of government.
I believe it falls under the category of infringement.
Governor Scott is a RINO just as Baker is of Massachusetts....so let me get this straight , I can enlist in the service and get a M16 issued and possibly get killed if deployed but I can’t purchase a firearm if I am under 21 years of ag if I reside in Florida? Also their is a confiscation rule for police thrown in for kicks?....so much for Scott...pathetic sell out. was the animal punk kid that commited this atrocity on any “big pharma” products? That is my first thought with these brutal unhuman actions by youth’s.
Hey now. “They” feel better and isn’t that what it’s all about? Well besides the hokey pokey that is.
Its age-based discrimination from the NRA’s viewpoint.
It has no rational relationship to keeping guns out of the wrong hands.
So what FL Republicans are telling an 18 year single mom in the inner city who fears for her and her family’s is: tough luck - you’re too young to own guns.
And that comes from folks protected by armed bodyguards around the clock: the hypocrisy is galling.
More than that, if they can take guns from young people, what’s to stop them from taking them from senior citizens
Sure, the Parkland shooting was a tragedy. But bad cases invariably make for bad law.
So I was talking about this with my 14 year old son last night, and we discussed how here in Ohio, you have to be 18 to purchase a long gun, but must be 21 years old to purchase a hand gun.
We then talked about the 21 year age requirement in FL, and he asked a couple of questions:
“So dad, can you buy me a rifle and give it to me today as a gift?” I believe the answer to that question is yes.
He then asked, “Can you buy me a handgun and give it to me as a gift now, or even when I’m 18?”
I guess I don’t know the answer to that question....
His last question, “How old were the boys who had guns when they signed the Constitution?”
His thought was that as long as his parents can make the purchase and give it to him as a gift, then we are saying he’s responsible and ready to own a gun. And if that’s OK, the new law is OK.
If not, he does not like the change. I appreciated his perspective and line of questioning.
Let’s pass a law restricting freedom of speech to those over 21. Those Marjory Stoneham liberal juveniles are abusing the privilege.
I think the handgun law is federal.
No, its a state law.
But it does raise a federal BOR issue re incorporation under the 14th Amendment so that’s why the lawsuit was filed in federal court.
The issue is whether the state of Florida can punish law-abiding young people for the act of a young gun madman.
According to the NRA, that’s cruel and unusual punishment.
Now Heller does say states can regulate firearms use but it must not deprive people arbitrarily of their RKBA.
This is not over.
Aside:
Most States have laws that are about marriage ages. They also have bylaws to those laws, that allow parents to sign and waive those for persons underage. Some, read SJW and Antifa, seem to lack mental capacity for either.
My belief is if you meet the voting age you are of age, meeting laws of mental capacity, to vote and own a gun!
So, those “youngsters” are being prohibited from buying or handling guns until the age of 21? They are supposedly too young to make that kind of decision and can’t be trusted?
Well then...
Perhaps there should be a second law to accompany that Florida law, where the new bill proposes that, since those 16-21 can’t be trusted with handling weapons, then, they should be prohibited from entering the military where they would be learning to handle weapons a lot more deadly than the ones Florida prohibits them from owning or handling.
The new age for military service will be 21 and above.
“I think the handgun law is federal.”
The question is, does that affect only their ability to purchase a handgun under the age of 21, or their ability to own one under the age of 21?
Can I legally gift my 18 year old son a 9MM handgun if I wanted to?
That was the question I do not know the answer to.
Let’s hope so, because otherwise it seems that our benevolent rulers can set whatever arbitrary age they choose.
Ask him what happens to a 19 year old girl living on her own whose parents have already passed away.
The state is not taking anyone’s gun. 18 year olds can still own them.
No, it’s not state law until now.
Yes
