A group of Florida local teacher organizations and individual teachers both members and non-members joined the Florida Education Association on Monday in suing the state over changes in union certification law that took effect over the weekend.
'We're not feeling defeated. We're feeling angry and we're ready to do something about it. We're tired of being the target of legislators," said Melissa Rudd, Wakulla teacher organization president, one of the plaintiffs in the suit.
The Wakulla Classroom Teachers Association is among a handful that faces the threat of not getting half of eligible teachers to join, as the new law requires. If it does not meet the mark, the association faces decertification, meaning it no longer would be able to collectively bargain on behalf of all local teachers.
Teacher collective bargaining is a right guaranteed in the Florida constitution, noted Tallahassee lawyer Ron Meyer, who is representing the plaintiffs. That right "cannot be diminished or impaired," he said, so any effort to take it away is unconstitutional.
That's one of the key points in the suit, filed in Leon County Circuit Court.

Hopefully, these bozos will take some action which results in another Union case going to the US Supreme Court at some point in the next few years. Then SCOTUS can slap them down again.

They will not go gently into that good night,
And unions support democrats who just love gun control.
Now eat your peas...
Public unions should not exist.

Any guesses on how that “right” got into the state Constitution?
It is similar in California where it is in the Constitution that 50% of the State Budget go to “education” - wonder how that got put into the Constitution.
Somehow I seriously doubt that a non-union person would join a protest in favor of a union to protest a ruling that reduces the power that a union has over non-union people.
We’re feeling angry and we’re ready to do something about it. We’re tired of being the target of legislators,” said Melissa Rudd,
Why don’t you start by not being “Angry” Missy?
The angry teachers I had were both incompetent . . . AND ughlee
What am I missing here? No one’s right to collective bargaining, guaranteed in FL constitution, is being denied.
Of course they have to have more than 50% membership. Why should a minority be able to bargain for the majority?
Either these teachers can’t think straight, or I am missing something here.
Without various forms of overt and covert 'persuasion', of course.
Until they don’t exist contract negotiations should be open to the public who are responsible for paying their salaries and funding their benefits.
Just like the 2A of the US Constitution, right? "shall not be infringed"? right?
Cry me a river. It's just a regulation. It gives the teachers freedom to choose.
At the barest minimum.
So.... if segregation were part of a state constitution.... well, then....
Money is getting tight and unions are dying. This is why the left needs to IMPORT people and ramp up the indoctrination of American kids.
Wonder how this fits in with the SCOTUS ruling recently?
Pretty sure at first the ‘bosses’ didn’t mind withholding union dues so the union ‘goons’ wouldn’t be hanging around on payday to collect from each member individually.
Time for the ‘bosses’ to stop the withholdings and quit withholding for the government also.
If that ‘windfall’ were to happen, would be the appropriate time to load up on pop corn and tar and feather futures.
While I do not know for certain, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was ratified by FL voters at the polling place. I despise direct democracy; it has done enormous damage to FL law.
