The restaurant chain Chipotle announced Saturday that it had terminated one of its managers for suggesting in a viral video that five black customers were planning to order food without paying -- but on Sunday, the company acknowledged to Fox News that it was considering re-hiring the manager because her suspicions may have been well-founded.
In a series of video clips seen more than 3 million times on Twitter, a Chipotle customer in St. Paul, Minn., identifed as 21-year-old Masud Ali, and several friends are told by a manager: "You gotta pay, because you’ve never had money when you come in here.” An employee adds, "We're not gonna make food unless you guys actually have money."
As Ali and his friends complain about "stereotypes," the videos show employees at the store claiming that the group had previously ordered food on two occasions without paying.
In one video clip, the manager smiles and tries to ignore the men while they produce what appears to be cash, as proof that they can pay for their food. One of the employees visible in the kitchen is black.
"It sounded really racist — the way she said it was racist,” Ali told Minnesota's Star Tribune newspaper on Friday. “She asked for proof of income as if I’m getting a loan.” On Twitter, Ali asked Chipotle: "Can a group of young well-established African-American get a bite to eat after a long workout session?”
Ali also posted the restaurant's phone number and address to social media. Within hours and under a deluge of criticism, Chipotle issued a statement implying that the manager had acted out of bias and announcing her termination.
But on Sunday, as tweets emerged showing that Ali had apparently made a habit of stealing from restaurants, Chipotle walked back its decision.

Chipotle makes the food at the counter and you pay after they hand it to you.
For all we know, that may be Chipotle's policy already. If it is, they were probably right to fire the manager. This incident is bad publicity for Chipotle whether the manager stays fired or not. I cannot say I will boycott Chipotle because I don't eat at restaurants that are famous for serving food full of e coli.
Ali said they were going to eat at Applebee’s and leave a 20 cent tip for the “nice lady”. So they were going to take their frustration out on an innocent server, by stiffing her? That tells me everything I need to know about who the real racists are here. What an a**.
Something about this story does not pass the smell test.
It is literally impossible to dine and dash at Chipotle, simply because they don’t have table service.
You order your food and they put it together assembly-line style behind a glass shield. You pay for it at the end of the line before you can go to your table.

What this is leading to, is non-Whites being allowed to get away with anything they want to do, and Whites thrown in jail for thinking that non-Whites need to obey the same laws as Whites.

That plan by the restaurant is backwards.
YOU NEVER prepare/serve ‘fast food’ without collecting for it first.
If Chipotle has this method, they will continue to be a target of the Dine & Dash crowd.

What makes me angry is that this hoodrat scum isn’t just a thief; he deliberately got that girl fired. That’s really compounding his evil. To steal is bad enough; to punish anyone for daring to stop you? I wouldn’t care if he were found dead in a ditch after that. In fact, I’d be satisfied.
Subway might be preparing it, but they DO NOT hand it over to you UNTIL you pay for it all. I eat at the local Subway at least once a month.
He also said that if the woman tried to stop him on the way out, he’d assault her. He really needs to be locked up.
The method that Chipotle uses has been in place for over a hundred years (think old style cafeteria where people stand in line with trays and pick out their foods before they get to the register to pay for their selections.)
They’ve always been targets. The restaurant just prices in the losses into the price of the food served. Everyone gets to pay for the dine & dash crowd, except, of course, for the dine and dashers.
Here’s the part you missed... Chipotle prepares each meal custom to the customer. If you get to the register and can’t pay, they will likely have to throw the meal away (or save it for the employee’s lunch... but there are moral hazards to that situation as well). The manager likely wanted the dine-and-dasher to pay before assembly to ensure he wasn’t left with an unsellable meal.
I guess my local Chipotle is better managed because they NEVER hand you the food until you’ve paid. The whole architecture of their stores supports this.
If you tried to make a run for it you’d have to run a gauntlet of tables and probably a dozen customers just to get to the door.
That makes sense. Food waste caused by wannabe dine-and-dashers who are too stupid to realize there is no way to get away with it.
