Remember this when you hear Democrats speak of wanting a Swedish kind of socialism:
Excerpt from video:
When under the heavy tax and spend version of socialism (back in the 1980's), the Swedish tax authorities did not bring in enough money to fund Sweden's welfare state. There were waiting lines to get health care, people couldn't get the pension they depended on for the future at that point the Swedish population just said enough. We can't do this.Sweden then reduced government's role they cut public spending and privatized the national rail network, abolished certain government monopolies, eliminated inheritance taxes, sold state-owned businesses like the maker of Absolut Vodka, lowered taxes, and reformed the pension system so that it wasn't unsustainable.
The results from the spending cuts and privatization were that this impoverished peasant nation developed into one of the world's richest countries .
Thanks; the situation described with foreign children is really coming to a head here in the NYC metro area (I’m in northeastern NJ). Our school taxes are 75% of those high property taxes, and our public school student populations are probably less than 25% “American”.
Yes, that’s a good point; defense spending was minimal in those areas.
True, and unless voters wise up (slim chance of that) we'll end up in a "Utopian" mess.
I visited Norway a couple of years ago and was met with many "holier than thou" comments from Norwegians about how environmentally pure they are compared to the U.S. It's true -- Norway is a beautiful and "environmentally-correct" country. But its cradle-to-grave socialism and clean environment are only made possible by its North Sea oil that is exported around the world to create the CO2 menace preached by the Gorites. Its socialism depends on world oil prices and the hope the oil wells keep producing. Total hypocrisy.
Your point is a good one. Some of this is the result of unintended consequences. The ripple of effect of birth control and worse, abortion, comes to mind.
Socialism is not a form of government. Any form of government can adopt socialism. Socialsm is an economic system.
Thanks; it ties directly to the costs of socialism, and in more than one way. Examples in my area are the fact that employers don’t want to be taxed heavily for socialist programs, so they leave; this creates an unstable employment situation, so young people don’t risk having families (only to find themselves unemployed). Unemployment in Western Europe has been a nagging problem for decades, and that instability creates very pessimistic young people - and now we are living through the same scenario..
“Further the Scandinavian countries don’t have near the population of the US so it’s not comparable..”
Not has it been multi-racial. Wait till the joys of diversity kick in.
Norway = ~7 US House Districts......
Sweden taxes individuals heavenly but has very low corporate taxes.
The government returns a lot of this money in the form of services to the individuals, such as health care, education, retirement, welfare etc. It’s a policy that assumes people are generally irresponsible and waste their money on frivolous things, so the government takes a big chunk and provides the basic, important things to all the people.
Meanwhile, the corporations, the goose that lays the Golden eggs, are treated well.
Not necessarily a bad system.
I think it is a horrible system, what in the world would make ANYONE want to work harder to be very successful when the government takes most of what you make!! Working more hours or harder than others doesnt get you better health care, or a better education you get the same give outs as all other citizens BUT of course the more money you make the more money they take to care for other citizens that dont work at all!!!
Oh it’s already kicking in and the nationals are NOT happy campers anymore.
“BUT of course the more money you make the more money they take to care for other citizens that dont work at all!!!”
For a system like that to work you need an honest, morally upright, homogeneous populace with shared values and a strong sense of community. I think Scandinavians generally fit that description, at least until recently.
I think people that willingly didn’t carry their own weight were ostracized.
NEW 2 MINUTE FED UP PROFESSOR #37 Am I alone in believing that we are facing a deeper divide than that between the statists on the left and traditional Constitutionalists but we are now divided into the sane and the insane? It’s getting downright CRAZY out here. It begs the almost rhetorical question of TO WHAT END? Be afraid! BE VERY AFRAID!! https://youtu.be/t173HOd43TE
the culture of Sweden has been corrupted seriously by Islam. The pattern of Islamic immigrants is to increase demands on welfare and social services.
Yep. They think they can turn anyone into honest responsible moral Swedes. They’re in for a surprise.
Bingo!
AOC touted Sweden as an economy to be admired and emulated.
America has 7 billionaires for every 1 million population.
Sweden has 14 billionaires for every 1 million population.
Hm.
Bump!
Where is you data from?
Sweden 20 out of a pop of 10.22M
Netherlands 20 out of a pop of 17M
Denmark 15 out of a pop of 5.77M
/ceoworld.biz/2018/03/01/30-countries-with-the-most-billionaires-2018/
Denmark 15 Billionaires out of a pop of 5.77M = 2.6 per 1M pop
Sweden 20 Billionaires out of a pop of 10.22M = 2 per 1M pop
US 571 Billionaires of 325 M = 1.7 per 1m pop
Netherlands 20 Billionaires out of a pop of 17M= 1.20 per 1M pop
