I’m aware of Corporate Ranches. There are still small to mid size ranches around. We have a lot around here. I see round ups all the time. Real cowboy stuff. Although you can see them using cell phones. Now that kinda kills the aura.

Vegan diets also do not supply enough nutrition during pregnancy. An ovo-lacto vegetarian diet (one with eggs and dairy products, usually as well as fish) is an improvement, but vegetables alone are not enough for the developing fetus. I vaguely recall reading a study a couple of years ago about a connection between vegan mothers and low birthweight babies, who were also later found to have neurological problems.

Human beings are omnivores and we have those ripping teeth for a reason.

And chicken is not a satisfactory solution as the sole source of animal protein because it is low in fat, among other things.

The “fight against red meat” is purely political.

I often go to Spain, where they eat a lot of lamb and and they still herd the flocks long distances from pasture to pasture. There are still shepherds...but now they herd their flocks on motorbikes! Usually while talking on their cell phones.

I believe that meat, particularly beef, gives you strength. Would never even consider a vegan diet.

I'm female, 75, 5'4" 114 lbs, BP 108/65 and thankfully, really good genes.

I mix it up....stews, stir fry, stroganoff....

But give me a steak on the grill....

Vegan burger?? at $5. That's nuts....buy a head of lettuce and a few tomatoes and eat salads for a week.

This is off topic, but same theme....

Last year I read a dental study that questioned the efficacy of dental floss.

People who do not floss but practice good oral hygiene - annual cleaning, fluoride toothpaste, good brush technique, no tobacco, moderate alcohol - have essentially the same gum health as people who do floss.

I will speculate that people who embrace good health habits concerning weight, tobacco, alcohol, and exercise, probably escape the potential damage from red meat.

Down 10 lbs a month doing KETO. Better BP, blood panels and I don’t feel hungry.

I met a young man at a car dealership over the weekend while buying a vehicle. During our visit he was complaining of a migraine headache “oncoming”. Further conversation revealed he did not eat meat.
Well there you go. No eat meat, then you get migraine headaches.
See, solving medical problems is easy..

longstanding concern about the welfare of animals employed in industrial farming.”

Don’t you bother concerning yourself with their well being as i’ll take care of that. My cows and I have an understanding, I take care of them now and they take care of me later. I’m not sure they understand their part in all this but we get by.

I see round ups all the time. Real cowboy stuff.

My Montana round up story:

Driving south for a break from winter I come across all this crap in the highway, a little two lane stretch between barbed wire fences in the Big Hole Valley. I come over the crest of a little hill and see the reason why. A cattle drive. With an old pickup truck loaded with alfalfa bales in the lead and a horse mounted cowboy and cattle dog in the rear. Maybe 200 head of cattle stretched fence to fence dropping piles of crap and bellowing their discomfort.

So I pull up on the left of the cowboy and hit the passenger window and look up and ask the cowboy how far they are going. "Just down to the old dump road", SHE says. Yep ... its a cowgirl! Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Not knowing how far that road is I ask her, "Should I follow you that far?"

"I wouldn't" she replies.

"Should I pass you?" I ask,

"I would" she answers.

"Just how am I supposed to pass you?" I ask, not seeing any path through the crap dropping bellowing mass ahead through which I can navigate.

"Oh ... just follow me" she replies. And she whistles to the dog and it begins cutting through the herd, nipping at heels and pushing cows right and left. The cowgirl and her horse are now at the dogs heels making an even wider path, with me right on her horses tail taking no chance for the bovine wave to envelop me again.

So we pop out the front, wave to the old rancher driving the pickup and shout a quick thank you to the cowgirl and are once again on our way, a little bit of Montana ranching life in the rear view mirror and miles of clean highway ahead.

I made my fuel stop about 200 miles later. The car was covered in cow crap down both sides and up about three feet. Took several car washes to get it all off.

“Last year I read a dental study that questioned the efficacy of dental floss.”

True, as long as you’re able to get the junk off after you eat, it doesn’t really matter how you do it. For the first time in my life I actually got a good review from my dentist. My procedure now, after each meal, is to use one of the tiny dental brushes, then a floss pick, and then brush. After that, 95% of the junk is gone and teeth and gums get healthy. In fact, I had an implant that was rotting away at its base...went to my present routine and the bone has now nearly recovered around it - something I was told wasn’t even possible!

Bottom line, get that junk off your teeth after you eat (the sooner the better) and the rest will take care of itself.

I know that if I consume nothing but alfalfa sprouts and cool spring water I'm gonna die. So if eating red meat...sugar...lard causes me to die I can “live” with that.

Where I live (SF Bay Area), I’ve known a lot of young women who purport to be full or part-time vegetarians or vegans. And most of them are perennially sick with colds and other various maladies. I, on the other hand, subsist mainly on steaks and burgers and haven’t have a cold in nearly 3 years. There’s just a tremendous amount of energy and nutrition in meat, and it’s nearly impossible to replicate that in a plant-based diet.

First, my condolences to you for living in the SF Bay Area. Second, I concur with your observations and add that the most sickly looking people I know are vegans and/or marathon runners.

I’ve tried all kinds of diet variations and most days my head aches to some degree.

Cutting bread and some related has helped some. Acupuncture and chiropractic generally do a lot.

Quack diets. Adkins. Keto. Low carb. High carb.

Get your exercise. Keep your weight down. And stop obsessing over the latest kooky fads that emanate from the land of fruits and nuts. Enjoy life. Just not to excess.

Humans need protein. We evolved to eat meat and vegs. Meat is low in fiber and so we need fiber from other sources.
