Still, it smacks of “poor judgement” in light of the bigger SARS-COV-2 picture ...

What he failed at was taking care of the problem on his ship after he had it.

Wasn’t the captain’s immediate superior onboard?

No Thank You. You’re the one that was away from Home and Family for those years.

Take Care.

Disrespect against our sailors? Guess it’s not just in Vietnam anymore

The claim is a few hundred cheered for him as he left the ship in disgrace.

There are something over 3 THOUSAND crew members on an AC.

I've been on a hanger deck. There were more than a few hundred. I'd guess closer to 2,000, or more. The videos don't show the entire group cheering for Captain Crozier. There were a lot more than shown.

The average age of the crew on a carrier is much closer to 20 than 30; much closer.

If they arenot in the photo then they weren’t on deck cheering.

It is not possible you could post this if you had military experience or even very basic knowledge of why the chain of command is so important.

This Captain shouldbe given a General Court Martial and bounced outof the Navy after being busted down to Seaman.

To be honest, I found being a leader to be often a hard and lonely role. Rewarding, but lonely.

You are correct. However, I am sure you heard the term, it’s lonely at the top. I heard it too. I was a USAF Senior NCO. We had to lead too. That was also a hard and lonely role. Not quite like yours, but certainly similar. What we senior NCOs wanted (and I always got) was backing from the brass. If a Lt Col from Command Post would call me, and tell me he wanted me to do something that I knew was not part of my job, I told my boss (E-8) who would go straight to the Major, who would usually set them straight. If it was really serious, the Major would go to the O-6 squadron commander, a former C-141 driver. He backed us.
On the other hand, I told my son, if he ever decided to go Air Force, not to do it as an enlisted man, but get a commission. He did exactly that. I thought it was weird, however. Just as they got their commissions, and threw their caps in the air, they got a fly over by two F-16s and a BUFF. When we graduated from boot camp, we didn’t even get a flight of Canadian geese to fly over. 🤪 My son wants to fly, and nothing else. He may become an instructor pilot later, who knows, but he just wants to fly. He doesn’t want to be a Transportation squadron commander.

USAF Senior NCO, Retired.

And your "military experience" was what? Private First Class (second award)?

Modly is that one that should be "fired".

How many Swabbies are in critical condition or dead from this?

Yes, the captain had options, he chose poorly.
It appears he published his in the clear email iot disseminate clearly classified information, while the command was moving in response to his already transmitted concerns.

He failed.

For the record, no, no family or friends on the Teddy, but children/nephews in harm’s way as we speak. In shxxtholes on two continents. Does that matter?

Hey Manly -

How much time have you spent in uniform? Any time aboard ship? The Captain was responsible for the health and welfare of his troops and he was, in spades.

Any idea how quickly this virus spreads - in close berthing, through the single air handling system? Did you happen to hear that even survivors of this disease have permanent physical damage?

But they weren't your kids, were they?

I find myself getting impatient with "experts" who haven't any clue at all of what they're spouting about.

Please prove me wrong: I'd love to hear about your naval experience.

Apologies for my delay in replying Mark17. Been a busy day.

God bless you brother, and thank your for your service to the good old USAF! I hear you. I had many experiences like you described.

But in the end, I think the people we served with were the best of our nation.

Take care.

You are correct sir. I always thought USAF personnel, with a few notable exceptions, were a cut above the pack. I made one small mistake. The O-6, was not the Squadron Commander. It was a Group, not a Squadron. I am still looking for my Canadian geese flyover. 😁
