In the absence of any substantial scientific support, face mask wearing has become a largely political act. If you love authority, if you need to be told what to doright or wrong!you probably are wearing a mask. If you tend to be skeptical of authority (or if you remember that not long ago, the authorities were telling us not to wear masks), you likely arent. Like so many things in America these days, wearing face masks is more a marker than a practical action.

“Our team” and the WHO are both on the wrong side of the issue—gambling there will be not be a second wave.
We will find out—soon enough—no point in arguing about it.
I only wear a mask on Halloween. If a business requires one I will shop elsewhere.
Slave wear ... the sign of submission

Hell No!
Now, unless you’re wearing a mask, you’ll not be allowed to avail yourself of your newly granted freedoms from the political lockdowns.
A simple question to mask wearers. Our bodies are designed to inhale oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Doesn’t wearing a mask inhibit the inhalation of oxygen?
Wearing some contaminated mask is not healthy and it protects no one.
About as well said as anything.
I think the “key” for seniors anyway, is to basically maintain social distancing. The mask is a SIGNAL that reminds folks to maintain that distance. Whether the mask itself does any good depends on the website you read and the politics of the writer. (what a shame). But as a “signal” to remember the 6-foot rule, it works fine.
That's the WHO which is joined at the hip with China? We withdrew from the organization but suddenly we're listening to them now?
Ive been working as usual since Plandemic. My work demands we wear them. Some customer locations do as well. It is what it is. Once the “heat” isnt around, or leaves for the day, off they come. I never cover my nose and have yet to have something said. They just want to see it on your face.
Personally I think its a useless gesture.
So if you're ever in the hospital for surgery make sure you tell the doctors and the nurses take off their slave wear first.
Good if you have that option.
Like the anti-death-penalty proponents who say that life imprisonment is harsher than execution and thus more condign, but in the same breath suggest that the death penalty might be reserved for the most debased forms of murder.
Once again, the people writing the article are missing the point:
No procedure mask or bandana is going to prevent any virus from passing through.
But, masks prevent the aerosol from your mouth from leaving and entering over my masked fast. You would literally have to get within inches of my face and sneeze at me to pass a virus if we are both masked.
Second, the mask prevents you from touching your nose and mouth. Since MOST arrogant non-maskers are not performing near enough hand washings, their gross germ infected fingers are on everything they touch. When you pick up an organge after some nasty guy just felt them all up...you are picking up whatever nastiness they have. And one of the first things you are going to do is touch your face. It is natural and difficult to resist.
Wearing a mask makes you aware of it. It prevents you from getting their nastiness into your system.
THOSE are the reasons they want you to wear a mask. I am still surprised that the masses (especially the otherwise smart people on FR) don’t get it.
The OTHER thing we don’t hear enough about is washing your hands. The amount of fecal matter on the average cell phone is astounding. You can that from putting the phone down on the counter and flushing an open toilet.
Finally, I laugh out loud when I read FR people writing about how low the cases are in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Korea. And yet, in order to replicate those results you would have to have a compliant, diligent, and hygienic population.
Based on the hysterical resistance to masks that I read about every day, I have come to the conclusion that we have none of those things in your communities.
Men write about wearing masks as if it is an attack on your masculinity. It is hilarious.
Of course, 99% of the Freepers bitching will put on a mask when then go to the store because they need to buy groceries. So, I guess its all a moot point.
Wear a mask, or not. I sincerely don’t care. But these are the reasons why you should—they work. Not in the way this article tries to explain, but in a more practical sense: People are stupid and nasty.
Yup, no masks in our family.
“If you are healthy, you only need to wear a mask if you are taking care of a person with COVID-19.” Very true statement
If you are unhealthy receiving cancer treatment you should wear a mask when in public. I saw this before COVID-19 and will see it after COVID-19.
Unfortunately I fear the people in this category will experience some negativity because of articles like this. They do not wear mask in submission to authority but to protect their own heath from the flu, Cold, Covid-19 and etc.
On occasion you will see those people out buying groceries and other needs and people will pass judgement because of those articles. Don’t believe me hang out in a cancer center treatment parking lot.
No. Unless you are running a marathon.
“Wearing some contaminated mask is not healthy and it protects no one.”
Tell that to some of the commenters on FR. One in particular has been trying to pick a fight with me for weeks, and I’ve just about had it.
I agree with you. :-)
