USAF. WEIGHTED Airmans Performance System(WAPS). Everyone had an ‘equal’ opportunity for promotion. One election cycle the AF decided to promote 6% of the eligibles. One particular field had a dearth of NCO’s-Security Police. They made their exception and promoted 50% of them. It’s playing the game and the rest are chumps.

The proposed “ASSET TAX” in Calif is another example of punishing success.

The Universities will follow suit by refusing the “valedictorian” status in admissions. In fact, it will become a liability.

Valedictorians make good workers but not good leaders. They got there by following the program. It’s hard to look up to someone who will on the day after graduation be just like everyone else.

People like Albert Einstein, John Wayne, Dr. Seuss, George Hitchings, John F. Kennedy, William Howard Taft, James K. Polk... all valedictorians or salutatorians.

After reading all the comments it made wonder if the military still gives a medal for “Courageous Restraint”. I would include the picture, but don’t know how to put them on here.

When my son graduated from high school 3 years ago there were 15 students that were all within .05% of the GPA average.

Basically, they were all straight A students. All took over ten AP courses. They all had a four year GPA of 99.9 something.

His best friend was second. He went to WPI and now works for a robotics company. My son went to UNH and is now an Associate Scientist for a major Pharma company.

They know so little, even the ones that claimed to have high SAT scores or claim to have went to a “Charter school”.

From the looks of your sentence, one is compelled to question your tutelage and hold no amazement at the dismal outcome thereof.

“Cherry Creek School District will no longer highlight valedictorians at graduation because ‘learning is not a competition.’”

No. Cherry Creek School District will no longer highlight valedictorians because the people in charge believe that excellence is racist.

The school systems nationally have been trying to remove success within their instructions for years. That could constitute someone with an active enough mind and a way of sorting out improvement to disagree with their idiocy of the failure of control with facts and “questions.”

The government doesn’t want free thinkers unless they approve of and build them for future leadership. So the goal is not success, it is participation and the lesser efforts to get by than exceed the expectation. Those exceeding are separated and assassinated. This used to be called behavior modification.

I don’t think CA has had public high school valedictorians for years. Maybe since the 1990s.

When I graduated from HS in 1959, in a class of about 270 students, the valedictorian was a gal who took no science or math classes other than the minimum required to graduate. She took home economics, typing and shorthand classes as her electives.
She was/is a nice person but no one in our class thought she should be the valedictorian.

That may be why changes were made to determining the valedictorian. However, in today’s world, grade inflation is more the culprit.
