I went to nerd school. We never did valedictorian. It’s really pointless, nobody really cares about what you did in high school. And I doubt there’s really much in the way of competition, 99% of students know they aren’t in the running and don’t care. And for the ones that are the AP classes are the real reward anyway.
It’s online and quick postings, not thought out publications. Get over yourself.
Public education is another perfect example of why government is the worst possible vehicle for trying to solve problems or achieve anything of a positive nature. The USA spends more $ per student than any other nation, and is at best getting very mediocre results. One has to wonder what’s really being done with all that $$$$$.
Next year they’ll want to eliminate ‘position #1’.
Whatever we do, lets not celebrate excellence. Easier to embrace mediocrity.....proves you is woke!
Pervasive grade inflation and social promotion make ranking increasingly difficult. Everyone gets A’s and nobody flunks.
Ours did, but the kids know who the top two are. My oldest is one of them and you better bet your butt I’ll have a great big old sign in front of the house congratulating him as such!!!

I’m a firm believer that the feds are creating the inflation to bolster additional tax money for them to pay their games. Each cent of gas is taxed and it goes into the black hole you are asking about. From their it is being used to bridge illegals into the country, bus (or fly) them to locations of settlement, and financially support them until they are self supporting enough to crawl to the polls.

Hell, I’ll bet CNN and MSNBC will cover this ... oh wait, I warped to the wrong universe again.
That goes back to Osama Obama that was worried because so many blacks wee receiving suspension compared to whites:

Now it’s discouraging students willing to work hard to achieve excellence to make those not willing to work hard

I’m sure the teachers’ unions would like to do away with private schools to achieve “equity”.
And that gives the Leftists more reasons to demand increasing the H1B Visa count because American Workers are just not up par compared to foreigners ... and they work for less $$$$.
My oldest daughter is one as well.
