Great addition. The key to the effectiveness of that weapon was it was bolted down so it would stay in a field of fire which also limited it field of fire. However, if the field of fire was right where your enemy would be, such as landing on a beach below a hill...then yes, very effective.

Fun doesn’t have to be practical, but Fun is useful, therefore full autos can indeed be useful.

The only thing I have against them is that they're too expensive to purchase and a pain in the butt to jump thru the hoops just to legally purchase one.

To say nothing about the cost of all the ammunition you would go thru on a day at the range.

If you do not have military experience, please just STFU.

I'm a lifelong gun owner, collector, reloader and hunter. I do not have military experience as I stayed in school and earned three degrees.

I'll say what I want, when I want, so, take your own advice.

That said, I always resented Reagan outlawing private ownership of full auto (manufactured after 1986). He wasn't the conservative his sheep claimed.

Repeal these NFA laws. Disband the ATF. Prosecute, incarcerate, execute criminals and we won't need gun laws.

Gosh - yet another internet "expert"! ("The AK has only the automatic fire option (although there are newer models that let you choose your rate of fire)".

Gomer here must never have actually handled a real AK: the AK has three safety positions - all the way up, Safe. One click down - full auto. Two clicks down -Semi. Has been that way since the first AK made.

Full auto fire is a great tool in combat for reacting to an ambush, or conducting an ambush, or dealing with a mass attack ("Gooners Galore"), or firing at night when the enemy is not easily visible but you know generally where they are.

The downsides of full-auto are - you use up ammo fast, if you are firing a magazine-fed weapon, when you run out of magazines loading more takes a long time, and your firing site becomes very obvious and you attract a lot of unwanted attention when you open up.

I love these bozos who always spout the "automatic fire is uncontrollable". All it takes is time on the trigger and practice to fire accurately and effectively with Full-A.

Since the time of the Romans there has always been at least one Bozo in every unit. Saw him many times in my AF career.

Training on the M60 was to fire a burst of six at a time.

I see movies where people fire full auto weapons long enough to have emptied the thing four times over.

“If it comes down to defending my family and home, I don’t care about what is practical for the police force.“

DP 12, 12ga shotgun is a home defense monster, if you can find one.

Time and place for everything.

In some Cases you’d need it.

In others, not so much.

But I want the option, either way.

Oh, dear God! Our bozo was so bad we had to threaten going AWOL to keep him off the grenade range. They eventually caught on and made him go home.

“Full auto thins out a mob/crowd.”

So can a semi auto shotgun. I can deliver 4 rounds in less than three seconds with a pattern the size of the front end of a Buick with mine. How much is enough? I didn’t buy it to open up on a crowd. I bought it to not miss what it was pointed at no matter how fast the target was. Depending on the size of the crowd will dictate the lifespan of the shooter.
