Well, I guess this is one of those straw meets camel type situations. People can only get pushed so far before they stop thinking rationally and just want some payback.
That mentality is how we got to where we are today.
Trillions for defense ... not one red cent for tribute.
Retaliation. People are sick of the crime and criminals.

That’s a real possibility. I have to guess the employee may have witnessed a lot of thievery and just went postal. Bad decision though.
The world is upside down - if criminals consider themselves to be the hunters and we are the vulnerable and very easy, defenseless prey.
That school of thought needs to be changed.

This is the kind of jury I want to be on.
We the People must protect each other on the street and IN THE COURTROOM.
The police, the prosecutors, and the judges conspire against us.
I will never convict anyone of felony for taking out the trash.

Seems to me that the only hope Dollar General has is to convince the jury that she was just a crazy person and that they can't be held responsible. I'd wager that such an attempt would fail.
I suspect the manager knows the shoplifter and/or he’s been a frequent thief and she’s had enough of his crap.
Maybe her store is in danger of being closed due to shrinkage?
In the past few years Dollar General and Dollar Tree have been building stores in rural Eastern Oregon towns that I would have thought would be too small to be very profitable but maybe they are competitive because of the the lower theft rates.
For all we know, he’s shoplifted from there more than once.
