Nice to finally see a gorgeous performer who isn't as skinny as a stick. Norah definately isn't one of them "salad eatin' women."

Nora's father pic

Ouch! Norah's mom has got to be 1,000 times easier on the eyes.

Hell NO! She seems to be proud of her curvy body. :-D Give me a REAL woman, not a heroin chick.

Maybe beacause the committee that decides who goes into what genre figured that she'd be overlooked in the jazz categories, which they don't televise. I don't really know. It's weird seeing her nominated with BRITNEY SPEARS! Gosh, how the heck did she finagle two noms? I really think that Britney's time is up. I'd be shocked if her next album does well, since people are sick of her "music". Her last single, the one nominated for a Grammy, peaked at #90 or or something on the top 100.

Oh, yeah, Congrats to Norah. Now that I think about it, it's fitting that she be nominated along with Britney. Quite a contrast. A talented singer-songwriter-jazz musician who can actually SING and play piano vs. Britney, a talentless puppet. I can only hope that Norah represents the future of music while Britney represents a very forgetable and recent past.

I was also glad to see Ms. Jones win. I just bought her album a couple of weeks ago and was blown away by her talent. Norah Jones, along with India.Arie, are living proof that a musician can actually possess REAL talent without the gimmicks and gloss. May both their careers thrive.

Here's my Norah Jones story...

My wife was pregnant with our first child when this CD was released. We were in Borders Bookstore, browsing the new music rack and saw this CD with a SALE $8.99 sticker on it--which they often do for new unknown artists before they "break".

I picked it up and noticed that it was on Blue Note Records and being that my wife and I are both fans of Sarah Vaughn, Ella, Etta and all the great female singers of that era, I figured what the heck.

We bought it--and needless to say, loved it. We listened to it non-stop, and evidently, our little unborn baby girl loved it too...from the time she was born, the Norah Jones CD would calm her down when she'd wake up crying in the middle of the night and other times when she needed consoling and nothing else would work.

Fast forward to a couple of months ago...my wife's boss had her buy tickets online to see Norah in concert for $300 bucks a pop. That's a long way from the $8.99 introductory price last year.

BTW our daughter is 14 months old now and none of us are tired of the CD yet--and I doubt we ever will be.

Can't recommend it enough.

I don't understand why they put her in the pop category. She's a jazz musician.

Many people think the "pop" category means, NSYNC and Celine Dion music, but the "pop" stands for "popular" and that includes all that is popular.

That's why Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra and Doris Day have all been considered "pop artists" over the years. It's why songs like ACHY BREAKY HEART, DEAR MR. JESUS, BUTTERFLY KISSES, Whitney's version of the STAR SPANGLED BANNER (during Gulf War) and even the instrumental version of the TITANIC THEME have been "pop" hits over the past decade.

It's also why "pop" radio stations, tend to play everything from Nsync to Nelly to No Doubt to, yes, Norah Jones.

Again, the key word is popular.

"I would beg to differ with you. Norah is a jazz pianist. She is an accomplished artist and not a one hit wonder even though she is only 23. She'll be around for awhile."

The entire album (cd) is fairly eclectic. Yes, her roots are in jazz. But some of the songs have country influence.

A lot of credit should go to her partner, band member, guitarist, who wrote many of the numbers.

I wouldn't predict if she will last. Her voice is good. Many with good voices remain in the business for decades, but few continue to make the top of the charts, for decades.

Those who last (Elton John, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Willie Nelson--many others) seem to have a deep inner drive to make music, even when they aren't on top, and survive big obstacles.

Her single "Don't Know Why" didn't get much notice by the Top 40 stations.

You're right. These days, unfortunately, thanks to consolidation in the industry, Music Directors and Program Directors at most Pop stations let the Record Reps do their job for them. If you only play songs that the record reps, (industry lobbyists) promote, you will miss a lot of potential hits.

If they were really Program or Music DIRECTORS they wouldn't be blind-sided by an artist who has sold over 6 million CDs, has a Number One AC single, receives airplay on most "ALICE" and "MIX" stations and sells out when she plays their market.

Again, from an insider, it's unfortunate that most PDs and MDs rarely play anything that isn't handed to them.

Any catch the staements quietly made by Gwen and a few of the guys in No Doubt? They showed their support for our troops wearing fatigues. Also surprise but Nellie had his GI stuff on too.

She is glorious! Anyone hear the rumour about a rapper named 50cent? He belongs to Emimem. He supposedly was shot, killed yesterday, which is no surprise with his history, by the fact a few years back he was shot 9 times. He was suppose to perform tonight and was a no show. Just curious? He is a person of interest in the Master Jam murder and will not speak to the police.

I saw an interesting segment on 20/20 tonight about a russian group named Bering Straight, trained classically but loves blue grass/country. Was hoping they would win the country instrumental category, but Dixie chicks got it like all the other awards. Ever hear a russian with a Tennessee accent? ;) It is weird!

Not one! Crow did about a split second something, didn't pay much mind, my daughter told me it was no biggie. And my daughter is a little freeper at heart fighting the mass of teens and 20ers all over the net and Freepers I am glad to say she is winning, changing minds!

The local news here in Dallas did a piece where they interviewed a number of Norah's music teachers. One of them said that three years ago he heard her singing and just couldn't get over how touching her sound was.

When she was on stage accepting the Grammy for 'Come Away With Me', she said that they all were surprised by the song's success because it was a demo. She reminds me of some of the older artists like Bing Crosby or Rosemary Clooney that were known for their talent, appeal and calm demeanor.

I really think that Britney's time is up.

I hope so! I mean bubblegum died long ago and that sleazy crap she has been doing will get her the way of Mariah and Christina. Were are they now? Anyone know if Kelly Clarkson won anything?

I guess Ashante (sp) who had 5-6 #1 hits wasn't the lock I thought she would be form all the results throughout the year.
